Job Introduction

The role of the Head of HR is to be a trusted advisor to the SCS Senior Leadership Team and other key stakeholders across the project and to provide strategic HR leadership on Organisational Change and Employment relations with the sole purpose of reducing risk by creating a strong and engaging culture. Working closely and collaboratively with parent company HR teams to ensure effective and efficient management of all HR risks. The role will develop and implement appropriate organisational structure change plans in order to achieve the strategic objectives of the project, and minimise risk.

This role will suit an experienced HR Business Partner.

Role Responsibility

  • Be the single point of contact for all ER and Organisation change matters within the project
  • Through the knowledge of the project, its services and the external market, address strategic and operational people issues, developing best practice HR initiatives and policies that support organisational change and employee relations.
  • Matrix management across the Joint Venture with all 3 parent companies; Collaborate, support and lead discussions with the HR teams to develop and ensure efficient management of all ER risks identifying ways to improve processes and capability of managers on employee relations issues and staff improvement plans / interventions.
  • Build the capability of managers through coaching to assist them to maximise potential and consistently raise the bar on performance of themselves and their employees.
  • Ensure SCS people policies, processes and initiatives are communicated effectively to the project and identify where they're not being applied
  • Provide people information to the People Director on risks and the management thereof along with the project plans and progress of organisational changes.
  • Ensure good governance and legal compliance - managing, monitoring and mitigating reputational and people risks.
  • Shaping and implementing workforce strategies, fostering talent and ensuring a positive employee experience
  • Deputising for the People Director in key project matters across all areas of the People plan to include attending Project Management Team meetings

Qualifications

  • Recognised professional accreditation or relevant professional experience as detailed below in experience and skills

Skills required Desirable

  • CIPD
  • Track record in mitigating/resolving HR risks
  • Relevant experience in a complex large scale programme or business
  • Previous experience of working within a JV
  • A genuine empathy for people and the ability to get alongside and motivate individuals
  • Strong planning, organisation and prioritising skills
  • Excellent peer and stakeholder management at MD and leadership team level, team player
  • Strong financial management and commercial acumen
  • Proven leadership skills and the ability to influence and coach senior leaders
  • Emotionally intelligent
  • Problem analysis and solving
  • Attention to detail and multi-tasking
  • Proven delivery in complex, political and ambiguous environment, demonstrating agility in successfully responding to changing circumstances
  • The role will require this person to be at ease in a fast-moving environment and will be able to hit the optimal balance between meeting the day-to-day needs of the business and more proactive, strategic requirements.

About the Company

The role will work on the HS2 project. HS2 is the UK's new high speed rail network. It will be a catalyst for economic growth across Britain, freeing up space on the existing railways and connecting 8 out of the UK's 10 biggest cities with fast, reliable and frequent high speed services

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
