Head of History
This job is brought to you by Jobs/Redefined, the UK's leading over-50s age inclusive jobs board.
Miltoncross is an academy at the heart of its community that has very high aspirations for all of its staff and 1000 students. We operate by the core values of Work Hard. Be Kind. No Excuses in order to foster a learning community where everybody values each other and everybody values the power of learning. We are located on the West of Portsmouth and access is easy from the M27 or A27. Many staff commute easily from Southampton, Hampshire, Isle of Wight and West Sussex either by car or by public transport. Staff and students enjoy their days in excellent modern buildings with superb facilities. All of the History classrooms are clustered together and the team shares a resource space with other humanities colleagues. We offer a supportive and unified working environment where we all have the same simple but ambitious goal: Every young person will leave us having exceeded expectations; academically, personally, and socially because we believed in them, challenged them and never settled for less. We believe every pupil can be a highly successful historian and we're looking for someone who shares that belief, without compromise.
As Head of History, you'll lead with purpose and precision. You'll inspire curiosity in all students, drive excellence at GCSE, and build a team culture rooted in our core values. We're on a mission to achieve the best progress in Portsmouth within five years. History will be central to that journey-connecting pupils to the past, empowering them in the present, and preparing them for the future. For this role, you must be a History specialist with a love of your subject and an ability to share that passion. This may be your first leadership post, or you may be experienced, either way, we will support you to ensure that History is a very high performing subject when compared nationally. You will be somebody who can enthuse students and staff and is always 'banging the drum' for History and its importance in the curriculum. You will be a superb teacher with high expectations of what children can and, under your leadership, will achieve. You will be a good communicator, have a strong moral purpose and you'll need to be fully committed to our cause: outstanding learning through a strong knowledge based curriculum supported by clear pedagogy, consistent routines and ultimately our students' high aspirations.
