Head of Health & Safety

The Head of Health & Safety is responsible for country coordination in implementing H&S, business continuity management and security strategic priorities.

Provides leadership and technical support to the implementation of the H&S, BCM and security strategic priorities in all functions of the company, ensuring that all programs are properly implemented and that compliance to company requirements is solid and sustainable.

Key Accountabilities

The Head of Health & Safety is responsible for the following key outputs and accountabilities:

  • Creates a compelling & inspiring company vision for H&S, based on AEI vision, to address key priorities to build a zero-accidents culture.
  • Provides guidance, coaching and orientation to the country leadership team and contacts concerning local H&S programs and initiatives.
  • Ensures an effective implementation of Health & Safety Management Systems, guarantees compliance, and delivers continuous improvement.
  • Provides a trusted support on identifying, assessing & managing occupational H&S risks along the value chain, participates in local root cause analyses, H&S cross audits, identifies trends, initiates, and participates in problem solving activities.
  • Communicates with functional leadership teams to get their support, involvement and endorsement to the H&S programs and initiatives.
  • Develops/adapts standards, guidance materials and trainings to support the implementation of the AEI H&S strategy.
  • Periodically reports the progress to the country leadership and AEI, using appropriate performance indicators and management review processes.
  • Drives the professional development of the H&S professionals across country, cooperating with other countries and AEI leadership to ensure a solid professional support network and succession pipeline.
  • Advises on Capex with respect to H&S projects.
  • Assists in the coordination and implementation of international standards ISO 45001 certifications including follow up.
  • Acts as a member of the H&S network within AEI: shares significant incidents and lessons learned, shares expertise and participates in cross audits.
  • Conducts independent compliance assessments, field observations, inspections, coaching and guidance within country.
  • Ensures regular walks through our facilities, using her (his) expert knowledge to identify potential risks.
  • Leads BBS (Behaviour Based Safety) program in the country.
  • Coordinates reporting towards external bodies.
  • Manages all technical risks in the country and coordinates actions to reduce or mitigate them.
  • Is responsible for the country Business Continuity Management
  • Coordinates, through Security manager, implementation, and improvement of security standards in the company and investigation of frauds.
  • Cooperates with the insurance company and coordinates cases raised related to the insurance.

Experience and Attributes Required

  • A mature and skilled team leader able to manage a team autonomously, often in pressured circumstances.
  • Calm, confident and cool under pressure.
  • Able to work at speed on own initiatives & be able to balance this with managing the team appropriately.
  • Excellent attention to detail, particularly in relation to health and safety, quality, and food standards
  • Self-motivated and ability to challenge the norm.
  • Able to work in a team but also to make decisions independently.

Experience

  • 3+ years of previous experience as a H&S manager of a complex production plant and warehouses (multiple locations and experience from commercial part welcomed)
  • 5+ years' experience in developing and deployment H&S culture change and trainings
  • 5+ years' experience in risk management, BCM and security
  • 3+ years' experience in developing and implementing H&S management systems, programs and procedures in different locations
  • Production or maintenance manager experience is a plus
  • Degree qualifications in a technical discipline (Master)
  • Legislation knowledge of the country and knowledge of ISO OHSAS system
  • Formal safety certification
  • Fluent English spoken and written
