Qualifications, Knowledge and Training and Experience

Essential criteria

  • Professional Accountancy Qualification
  • Substantial financial management accounting experience at a management level in a large, complex organisation
  • Extensive experience in the preparation of Statutory Financial Statements and compliance with IFRS
  • Significant experience in a large, complex NHS organisation
  • Demonstrable post qualification development and achievement of CPD

Desirable criteria

  • Educated to master's degree level or equivalent professional qualification/management experience

Qualifications, Knowledge and Training and Experience

Essential criteria

  • Demonstrable post qualification development and achievement of CPD
  • Thorough understanding of current NHS accounting principles and procedures
  • Substantial financial management accounting experience at a management level in a large, complex organisation
  • Significant knowledge of financial risk management
  • Excellent understanding of accounting processes and audit requirements
  • Extensive experience in the preparation of Statutory Financial Statements and compliance with IFRS
  • In depth knowledge of VAT legislation and practices
  • Experience in a complex partnership-dependent environment
  • Significant experience in a large, complex NHS organisation

Desirable criteria

  • Understanding of accounting framework for Charitable Funds to ensure that income and expenditure is accounted for in accordance with the objectives of the Charity and that the accounts comply with the Charity legislation (e.g. Charities Act 2006)
  • Understanding of VAT and Gift Aid relief and its application to charitable funds expenditure.

  • Expert level numeracy, numerical reasoning and numerical analysis skills
  • Commercially astute and able to drive business growth and improve cash flow
  • Highly analytical with a structured and methodical approach to problem solving and able to translate and interpret large amounts of data
  • Able to manage day to day business challenge, whilst not losing sight of the long-term strategic goals
  • Skills in setting and implementing a customer experience best practice road map
  • Natural leader of people, capable of setting a vision, harnessing and nurturing talent and managing performance during a period of change and transition
  • The ability to influence and persuade others, creating successful and effective working relationships through strong, positive interpersonal skills and excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Able to work independently
  • Capacity to handle many projects simultaneously
