The Role

Reporting to the Operations Director, the Head of Facilities will have full responsibility for facilities management across our portfolio of care homes spanning the North East and Yorkshire.

This role encompasses planned and preventative maintenance, project management of capital works, supplier management, and compliance oversight. You will lead a small central maintenance team and provide professional guidance to handymen and gardeners based at each care home.

The role offers hybrid working that being 3 days in Head Office (NE15 8ND) and 2 days working from home if requested however regular site visits will be necessary therefore you must have a full UK driving license and access to your own vehicle.
Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all aspects of facilities management, including planned, preventative, and reactive maintenance.
  • Develop and implement maintenance programmes to ensure compliance with statutory, health, and safety requirements.
  • Project manage refurbishment and capital works projects from concept through to completion, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery.
  • Maintain and manage a preferred supplier list, ensuring quality, reliability, and value for money.
  • Write specifications and tender documentation for contractor appointments, evaluate bids, and present recommendations to the Executive Team.
  • Manage departmental budgets, forecasts, and expenditure effectively.
  • Conduct site inspections and compliance audits across all care home locations.
  • Provide clear reports to the Executive Team on project progress, risks, and emerging property issues.
  • Ensure all sites remain compliant with UK regulations, including Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022, and Care Quality Commission (CQC) expectations.

About You

You will be an experienced facilities professional with the ability to combine operational delivery and strategic oversight. You'll be comfortable managing multi-site estates and delivering high-quality maintenance and project outcomes within a regulated environment such as care, healthcare, or education.

You will have proven experience in facilities, estates, or property management role (multi-site experience essential) as well as strong project management and organisational skills, with the ability to deliver multiple projects concurrently.

You will be able to demonstrate experience managing budgets and supplier contracts as

well as having a comprehensive understanding of UK health, safety, and building compliance requirements.
