About the role

Our engineering team is growing! and we're looking for a Head of Engineering to help us building new and innovative products. Our Head of Engineering will partner with our product and engineering leadership team to lead and mentor a team of Engineering Managers and engineers, inspiring them to do their best work. This role will suit someone who wants to build a world class engineering organisation, thrives in simplifying ambiguous situations and is passionate about making a positive impact.

What you'll do

  • Help to create a safe environment which allows teams to be their authentic selves.
  • Innovate. This is core to Motorways Engineering culture.
  • Collaborate to design and implement enterprise-wide software solutions.
  • Influence, drive and champion the strategic technical direction of the platform across the company.
  • Take ambiguous information and simplify it.

Key Responsibilities

We're all in this together - Whilst every member of the Product and Engineering team is responsible for ensuring the Security, Stability & Scalability of our platform, you will also be responsible for:

  • Delivering our product roadmap & planning for the future
  • Developing and delivering engineering roadmaps & strategies that span departments and functions and that have a direct impact on business performance
  • Coaching and developing new and existing managers and individual contributors
  • Bringing together multiple teams within the department to build a shared culture and encourage cross-team collaboration
  • Being an approachable, supportive and compassionate leader to reporting team members and colleagues
  • Providing passionate direction by articulating and engaging others with the functional vision and priorities.
  • Managing expectations of senior stakeholders and key external partners
  • Heading up multidisciplinary projects, initiatives or teams
  • Solving complex problems with broad impact either individually or through collaboration with stakeholders

Requirements

About you:

  • You are an engineering leader with extensive commercial experience delivering products across web, mobile and other through engineering excellence
  • You have a track record of initiating, running and delivery of successful cross functional projects
  • Proven track record of professional development of team members and people leaders
  • Extensive experience of developing and delivering long term technical and/or product strategies
  • Broad and comprehensive understanding of concepts and principles in engineering and product/design
  • Ability to lead and engage others in driving a high performance culture
  • Working in a cloud based organisation with high scale
