Position

We are looking for a dedicated and experienced manager to lead the Enablement element of our Sight Loss Support Team in Manchester. This is one of three specialist service areas within our community-based support offer, alongside Children and Young People (CYP) and First Steps.

The Enablement team delivers practical skills training, digital support, counselling, and community hub activities to help people with sight loss live more independently. Last year across Greater Manchester and Merseyside we supported over 3,700 people, including 1,100 new service users, through nearly 29,000 interactions. From emotional support to digital skills and equipment advice, our services give people the confidence and tools to take the next step in their journey.

As Head of Enablement, you will:

• Provide clear leadership and day-to-day management of the Enablement and Digital Enablement teams

• Ensure services are well run, outcome-focused, and meet the highest standards of safeguarding and quality

• Manage budgets, contracts, and reporting requirements

• Work closely with commissioners, funders, and community partners to sustain and develop services

• Contribute to the wider Sight Loss Support leadership team alongside the Heads of CYP and First Steps

  • Salary: £21.02 per hour/£40,442.48 per annum
  • Hours per week: 37
  • Weeks per year: 52
  • Contract: Permanent
  • Annual leave : 5 weeks plus 10 days bank holiday
  • Location: Manchester with regular travel across Greater Manchester and the wider region. Hybrid working is available.
  • Closing Date: 30th September 2025 - 12noon.

The role is operational at its core - focused on delivering high-quality services, managing people and budgets, and working closely with partners - making it an excellent opportunity for someone with senior service management experience in health, social care or the charity sector.

Requirements

What we are looking for:

  • Experience of leading and supporting teams across different services or sites
  • Strong financial and service management skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with commissioners, partners and funders
  • Experience of developing services or partnerships within health, social care or the voluntary sector
  • A commitment to equality, inclusion and the aims of Henshaws

It would be an advantage if you also have:

• Experience of NHS or local authority commissioned services

• Knowledge of health and social care funding

• Experience of developing digital or online support

This role requires an Enhanced DBS check (child and adult barring lists) and the ability to travel across the region.
