Head of DevOps & Cloud Engineering

Location: Remote with occasional travel to Glasgow

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of DevOps & Cloud Engineering to lead our DevOps and cloud engineering teams. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of cloud platforms, infrastructure as code, CI/CD pipelines, and a passion for driving efficiency and innovation within the organization. This role requires a strategic thinker with excellent leadership skills to manage a talented team and collaborate across departments to ensure seamless delivery and operations of our cloud-based applications and services.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Management:

Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing DevOps and Cloud Engineering team.

Foster a culture of continuous improvement, automation, and operational excellence.

Collaborate with other engineering and product teams to align DevOps strategies with business objectives.

Provide technical guidance and oversight to ensure the reliability, security, and scalability of the company's cloud infrastructure.

DevOps Strategy & Implementation:

Develop and implement a comprehensive DevOps strategy to support the continuous delivery and deployment of applications.

Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines.

Drive the adoption of best practices in configuration management, automated testing, and release management.

Cloud Infrastructure & Management:

Design and manage scalable, secure, and cost-effective cloud infrastructure solutions.

Ensure the availability, performance, and security of cloud environments.

Oversee the implementation of infrastructure as code (IaC) practices using tools like Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation.

Manage relationships with cloud service providers (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and optimize cloud costs.

Security & Compliance:

Implement and enforce security best practices and compliance standards within cloud environments.

Conduct regular security assessments and audits.

Ensure that all systems comply with relevant regulations and standards.

Monitoring & Incident Management:

Develop and maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting systems to ensure high availability and performance.

Lead incident response and root cause analysis efforts for production issues.

Establish and refine incident management and disaster recovery processes.

Collaboration & Communication:

Work closely with software engineering, QA, and IT teams to ensure seamless integration and delivery of software products.

Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels to provide updates on DevOps and cloud initiatives.

Advocate for DevOps culture and practices across the organization.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (Master's preferred).

8+ years of experience in DevOps, cloud engineering, or related fields.

3+ years of experience in a leadership or management role.

Technical Skills:

Expertise in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).

Proficiency in infrastructure as code (IaC) tools (Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation).

Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines and tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, CircleCI).

Knowledge of containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).

Experience with monitoring and logging tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack).

Strong scripting and automation skills (Python, Bash, etc.).

Soft Skills:

Excellent leadership and team management skills.

Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities.

What Happens Next?

Our Talent Acquisition Team will be in touch to advise you on the next steps. We have a two-stage interview process for most of our consultants. In certain cases, we may include a third and final stage, which is a conversation with the company Partners. This will only be considered if deemed necessary.
