Head of Department- Court of Protection

Location: The role will be hybrid with visits to all office locations.

The role will be to lead and develop the Court of Protection & Private Client team to meet the needs of our clients and deliver Fletchers' strategies and plans for the department.

Main Responsibilities for the role:

  • Ensure that the team provides excellent client service
  • Ensure that the team achieves their agreed performance targets by using consistent and clear leadership in the management of individuals KPI's
  • Ensure the management of all client cases, in compliance with relevant external supervision requirements.
  • Provide inspirational leadership to the Court of Protection & Private Client team including recruitment, motivation, training and supporting of team members as required
  • Implement and monitor departmental plans to deliver Fletchers' priorities and projects as we continue to grow.
  • Support the budgeting process for Court of Protection & Private Client
  • Lead the Court of Protection & Private Client department directly managing the departments operational needs working with our cost and finances team to manage all key reporting metrics.
  • Coach, develop and support managers to achieve excellent people leadership practice
  • To run a reduced load of circa. 25% of a full capacity numbers varying in value and technicality
  • Liaising with clients, experts, barristers, third party solicitors, insurers and other experts as necessary.
  • Dealing with all aspects of the lifecycle of the trust and deputyship matters.
  • Ensuring all actions are completed in a timely fashion.
  • Accurate time recording.
  • Maintaining client files in good order in accordance with Lexcel and other quality assurance requirements.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Need to have required skills and experience to be appointed as a Director of the Trust Corporation and be a qualified Solicitor
  • Experience of successfully leading a Court of Protection Team
  • Experience of running a wide variety of Deputyship and Trust matters
  • Ability to deliver excellent client service
  • A good understanding of how to deliver and grow team productivity
  • Experience of coaching and supporting other lawyers and managers
  • Forming and maintaining positive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to role model good practice leadership
  • Technology literate, with the ability to use technology to enhance legal services
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to form positive working relationships with a wide variety of team members
  • Strong analytical skills
