Required for a January start or earlier, we invite applications for our Head of Art position.

The successful person will lead a department that consistently achieves outstanding outcomes at GCSE. This post would suit an experienced Head of Art or someone who is seeking their first head of department post. This is a perfect opportunity to join the Technology and Enterprise group of subjects, which greatly values the creative subjects such as Art, Design and Technology within the curriculum. We currently have multiple GCSE Classes and we are keen to develop our GCSE offer within these disciplines. Art is a strong feature throughout the three-year KS3. Applications are welcome from both full time and part time candidates.

We are looking for a suitable graduate, with a Creative Arts background and has the ability to teach Art to all age groups in this thriving and popular department.

We hope to find a candidate who is ambitious, enthusiastic and highly motivated who will look to sustain the high outcomes but develop the curriculum offer.

The successful candidate will be highly proficient in a range of Art disciplines.

Candidates should have excellent communication skills when working with young people and possess the appropriate drive, expertise, and energy.

The successful applicant would be expected to teach Art to all age groups, including GCSE classes.

All of our staff are lifelong learners and reflective practitioners. We pride ourselves on giving departments ample time for subject specialist CPD and to talent manage our staff for future leadership roles. Leaders at all levels are well supported through our effective line management system.

The Art department is part of a group of subjects, which incorporates Art, Design and Technology, Business Studies, ICT and Food Preparation and Nutrition. You will be joining an established team of colleagues who like to share good practice and support the development of each other's' areas. The post would be suited to an ambitious teacher. The department has excellent facilities, with a large Art room which is considered well resourced. This is situated within the same area as the DT and Business department areas.

The successful candidate will be prepared to go the extra mile, be keen to work as part of a team, and be open and willing to share new ideas.

The Art curriculum reflects a broad and diverse approach and sets out to involve all students and reflect their different interests and aptitudes. In year 7, students are taught the key concepts of drawing. As the year develops, they build upon their drawing skills and return to more complex tasks in order to strengthen confidence and understanding. In the first part of the year, students are also introduced to mark-making and collage, focusing on layering. In the latter part of the year, students are introduced to a painting project which teaches them basic colour theory and introduces them to a range of painting techniques. They also learn about brush control and practice a wide range of skills to create a foundation for years 8 and 9. In year 9, students are introduced to some of the key areas of GCSE level work to prepare them for KS4. Having laid these foundations students are able to transition to GCSE with confidence and creativity.
