Our data team encompasses business intelligence, product analytics, data science and data engineering, all of which support decision-making company-wide. Key stakeholders include finance, marketing, content, product, and growth.

We are looking for a strong leader and strategist on a CDO track - someone who has lived through the "scale-up" phase and knows exactly how to mature data models and infrastructure into a world-class engine for growth.

This role is based out of our Central London HQ. We operate on a hybrid working model at MUBI, where we come together for 3 core days per week - Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday.

Where you'll have impact

The Mission

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead data modeling, including infrastructure overhaul (robust ingestion, specialized pipelines, self-service CSV portal), semantic layer implementation for AI, and migrating Snowflake to code-based management (Terraform/Pulumi) for better governance.
  • Establish a "Single Source of Truth" with comprehensive logging, alerting, and status tracking.
  • Coordinate the successful migration and high adoption of Omni as the primary BI tool, ensuring self-service.
  • Implement observability and monitoring tools to facilitate oversight and cost-optimization of data infrastructure and service consumption

II. Advanced analytics, modeling, and data governance

  • Centralize and refine third-party (e.g. Amazon, Apple, YouTube) and mobile app data to enable detailed performance reporting.
  • Help guide the development and evolution of core TV and Platform Value models to optimize content investment and platform strategy
  • Lead the deployment of predictive models in partnership with business stakeholders (content, growth, marketing, finance), focusing on key areas like improving retention and understanding marketing attribution.Oversee data governance and advise on best practices for consistent reporting across the business.
  • Establish and advise on best practices for data governance to ensure consistent and high-quality reporting across the business.

III. Strategic leadership & business partnership

  • Develop strategic plan & roadmap to guide MUBI's transition into a data-driven organization
  • Act as a strategic partner to leadership, driving innovation and revenue by leveraging data
  • Define the team's long-term data strategy, operational approach, and how data is leveraged across the business.
  • Collaborate and build strong relationships with a wide variety of cross-functional stakeholders, both technical and non-technical.

IV. Team empowerment & AI/ML advancement

  • Manage, mentor, and inspire a multidisciplinary team of 6 talented analysts, engineers, and data scientists, focusing on their career growth and technical excellence.
  • Foster a culture of high-performance collaboration.
  • Stay at the forefront of SOTA Data & AI models, helping team members level up technical execution and scaling the overall ML roadmap.

What you'll bring

We are looking for a rare blend of technical depth and strategic foresight. You are likely an established leader who has transitioned from a senior technical contributor to a manager, never losing your "builder" mentality.

  • The empowering lead: You are a natural mentor who thrives on helping a team of six data scientists, analysts, and engineers thrive. You know how to build a data-driven culture by empowering others rather than gatekeeping information.
  • The scale-up operator: You have a proven track record of developing the data maturity of an organization. You've lived through the growing pains of a scale-up and know how to drive meaningful change in how a business interfaces with analytics.
  • The technical architect: You possess a deep knowledge of data warehousing, ETL systems, and the modern data stack (specifically dbt). SQL mastery is mandatory, and proficiency in Python is highly beneficial to help you guide the team's more complex data science workflows.
  • The reporting visionary: You have experience building robust reporting frameworks using BI platforms like Omni, Looker, or Tableau. You don't just "make charts"; you unify data from all aspects of the business to craft a cohesive narrative and drive informed decision-making.
  • The strategist & AI guide: You stay at the forefront of the latest developments in the ML/AI space. You can translate "hype" into a practical company-wide AI strategy, ensuring our roadmap is both ambitious and grounded in trusted data.
  • The transformational partner: You are a veteran at collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders (Content, Growth, Marketing, Finance). You have a history of using data to drive transformational business impact, from predictive box office models to advanced attribution.

We want to make cinema accessible to everyone. We believe people from different backgrounds bring different ideas that foster innovation and engagement, allowing us to attract great people to develop the best experience for our users.
