Job Title: Head of Construction
Reports To: Managing Director - Bluefield Renewable Developments Ltd
Required Qualifications, Skills and experience:
- Degree level qualification in Engineering, Construction or equivalent
- Extensive experience in the management of the pre-construction, EPC/construction, and early stages of EPC warranty period/post-construction phases of utility-scale solar PV, co-located PV & BESS and stand-alone BESS, ideally in a commercial/owner's representative context.
- Strong technical understanding, communication and project management skills, underpinned by knowledge of, and commitment to, the highest standards of health, safety and environmental management and planning compliance. Must be able to work in a pressured, fast-paced environment, managing high performing teams and collaborating across a range of internal business areas and external consultants.
- Ability to manage own workload, prioritise effectively, and be accomplished in establishing processes and procedures to ensure the development projects are carefully and responsibly managed from the point of successful planning permitting to commissioning, and beyond.

Purpose of the Head of Construction
The role is the client-lead in managing Bluefield and its investors' Construction project pipeline through the pre-construction and construction phases, ensuring high quality generating assets are delivered into the operating portfolio on time and on budget, through the coordination of internal resources and management of external contractors.
Duties and Responsibilities
- General
- Lead and manage the construction function on behalf of Bluefield and its investors' interests, as represented through project SPVs.
- Ensure adequate and diligent Hazard analysis and Risk management is carried out in support of establishing project feasibility at key development stages, including liaising with BOL to learn lessons from operational plants.
- Oversee the construction process from planning approval through the EPC construction phase, to commissioning and beyond into the warranty period (likely PAC/equivalent).
- Support the investment team, and specifically the Head of Project Delivery, with the tender process for EPCs, ICPs and other key contractors, including the RFQs, tender, contract negotiation, contract award stages
- Manage contract milestone payment schedules and advise the investment team on any retentions and/or liquidated damage claims
- Be the nominated 'Competent Person' for CDM matters relating to construction projects
- Working closely with the Group Head of HSEQ, and also the development, investment, engineering and ESG teams, ensure the projects remain compliant with all applicable commitments and requirements, including (but not limited to) planning & LEMP, lease, EPC/ICP agreements, relevant H&S and CDM regulations, G99 and metering regulations etc.
- Establish and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders and contractors through the construction process, including EPCs, ICPs, DNOs, landowners, external contractors and the local community
- Produce timely and informative reports to the investment team, and specifically the Head of Project Delivery, and Bluefield/SPV Boards where required, detailing progress against project milestones and interpreting and advising on formal notices and variations from EPCs, ICPs and other contractors against contractual terms
- Design and implement appropriate contractor reporting formats, content, and timetables, ensuring reports are provided to the Head of Project Delivery in a timely manner
- Work collaboratively with the Head of Project Delivery to create operational budgets for each project and track, analyse, assess and, where appropriate, approve Operational expenditure
- Establish and maintain KPIs and progress/key activity trackers for all construction projects, including fixed and variable costs benchmarking
- Working with the ESG team, support the establishment and management of a responsible sourcing policy and effective environmental and biodiversity management,
- Assume commercial responsibility for a plant post-commissioning, working collaboratively with the appointed asset manager to ensure the EPC contractor's obligations are met through the commissioning phase to PAC/equivalent.
- Prepare and manage the handover of the operational asset at PAC to Bluefield's asset management company and the appointed Commercial Manager, including Punch List issues, defects, and performance LDs with EPC Contractors at PAC, as appropriate
- Manage a comprehensive handover of responsibility for the project from either internal or external development teams, including remaining planning discharges, CTMPs, LEMP requirements, community-related matters, landowner liaison etc.
- Liaise with relevant internal teams to ensure the management and implementation of suitable insurance policies for construction projects and their associated SPVs, throughout the pre-construction, construction, and EPC warranty period phases
- Maintain data security and confidentiality by using information within the parameters of the role, any applicable SLAs, the company data policies and / or privacy notices and the statutory guidelines set out within the GDPR and any associated UK legislation, in particular data that is generated by CCTV or that may be classified as personal
- Comply with all required fire, health and safety requirements for the environment in which you are working, including making yourself aware of the current applicable policies and risk assessments and acting accordingly, and attending any required
- Any other reasonable task as requested by a line manager, Partner or Director of the Bluefield Group
- Post-Construction Phase
- Working collaboratively with the asset management team, design and populate a handover pack for each project, in order that asset management services commence post-commissioning
- Interactions within the Bluefield Group
- As a member of a small team will be required to participate in all aspects of the business of Bluefield which may also include appropriate tasks outside of the primary duties and responsibilities. This may involve, as required by business needs, undertaking site visits to the development and construction projects or constructed plants, as required by your role. On occasion, this may involve overnight stays in suitable hotel accommodation
- Provide leadership, support, input and/or assistance, to ad hoc tasks, projects, and initiatives as required from time to time, including (if appropriate) temporary commercial management of operating plants to cover periods of absence of other team members and input into value protection and value enhancement initiatives across the operating portfolio of assets
- As required, assist/lead in the recruitment and line management of existing and/or new team members

Job Location Bristol or London Central and frequent UK travel. Hybrid working available. There may be opportunities to travel overseas on occasion and this may be required for training purposes. You are required to visit company sites within the UK; this requires you to be able to drive. Hours of Work
37 ½ hours per week, Monday to Friday 9:00 am until 5:30 pm. Flexible working is available.
