Join Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust as our Head of Commercial and Property Re-development and play a defining role in one of the UK's most ambitious hospital redevelopment programmes.

With a £3-4bn investment transforming our major hospital sites, this role leads the commercial property strategy that will unlock significant development opportunities across the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust sites. This includes the St Mary's site where the new hospital will release a substantial portion of land for future commercial use.

You will shape master planning, drive value enhancing commercial approaches, and guide professional advisors to deliver impactful, future focused development solutions. Main duties of the job

  • Maintain strategic oversight of all commercial property development activity associated with the ICHT redevelopment programme. With particular focus on the St Mary's site. Ensure commercial planning, land use optimisation and master planning activity are fully aligned with the Trust's long term redevelopment vision.
  • Maintain strong coordination across professional advisors, internal experts and partner organisations, ensuring commercial opportunities are shaped, assessed and progressed and delivers maximum value for the organisation and wider system.
  • Responsible for driving the full range of property workstreams, including evaluating development options, leading market engagement, shaping commercial structures and developing investment ready business cases to support robust financial, planning and sustainability outcomes.
  • To work closely with the St Mary's Taskforce to develop and refine funding and commercial strategies that accelerate delivery of the new hospital and strengthen the strategic case for long term redevelopment.
  • Ensure seamless collaboration with clinical leaders, design and planning teams, senior executives, and regional and national partners to secure a planning consent that supports both hospital delivery and future commercial development potential.
  • To engage with local authorities, community groups, industry partners and the life sciences ecosystem, delivering development that is commercially strong, socially impactful and environmentally responsible.

Education/ Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Educated to master's level or equivalent level of experience of working at a similar level in large and complex organisations
  • Relevant professional qualification

Desirable criteria

  • Membership of recognised professional body
  • Evidence of CPD

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Track record of managing large mixed-use development projects from inception to completion
  • Comprehensive understanding of property and investment markets, with exposure to UK and / or European real estate markets
  • Managing professional teams
  • Delivery of complex commercial strategy and transactions in the public sector
  • Commercial experience in the Manufacturing and Infrastructure industry on large scale property deals
  • Senior leadership experience in a large and complex environment
  • Experience communicating in hostile, antagonistic or highly emotive atmospheres, whilst still delivering the core message in a sensitive manner
  • Significant experience in Programme management and structuring the delivery of complex work, incorporating multiple inputs and stakeholders, management of fluctuating workload and associated resource management
  • Senior level technical knowledge and experience of advising on complex transactions and commercial options
  • High level of relevant professional, technical experience related to the delivery of commercial advice and complex transactions including market engagement
  • Experience of leading and managing teams to be successful

  • Track record of leading major developments in London
  • Track record of working on complex urban sites with heritage assets

  • Leadership, vision, strategic thinking and planning with highly developed interpersonal skills
  • Deep, proven, knowledge of delivering change within a complex environment
  • Undertaking detailed analysis and producing business cases to support investment
  • Ability to analyse numerical and written data, assess options and draw appropriate conclusions
  • Comprehensive IT skills: ability to input and manipulate financial data into databases and spreadsheets; and utilise the full suite of Microsoft Office programs`1
