Description
You will be responsible for the commercial operation of our growing portfolio of BESS assets. On day 1 you will have a portfolio of 110MW (4 assets) to manage with a further 25MW in construction and 190MW (3 assets) about to sign construction contracts. Beyond our assets that are close to construction, we have a development pipeline in GB of several GW at various stages of development that we are getting ready for Final Investment Decisions in FY27.
This role provides an opportunity to embed a best-in-class function in a rapidly expanding business deploying the latest in BESS technology. In the future, we envision the Head of Commercial Operations playing a key role internationally as assets enter construction across Europe.
What you'll be doing
This is a broad and varied role with the opportunity to have massive impact. Your team's key responsibilities will include:
- Ensuring our assets in construction are ready to generate revenue as soon as they are commissioned by
- Applying for generation licences
- Managing the Capacity Market process
- Interfacing with our construction and trading teams to ensure the necessary hardware is installed and communicating with the BESS SCADA system
- Appointing Meter Operators
- Working in partnership with our asset managers to ensure best in class asset availability and minimal ancillary services penalties by
- Tightly managing our operations contracts
- Working with our data engineering team to monitor operational performance
- Considering the use of condition monitoring hardware and software to track asset health at a deep level
- Optimising commercial performance by
- Seeking to continuously improve our 3rd party Optimisers
- In the near future, being a 'critical friend' to our internal data science and trading colleagues
- Ensuring our assets are available to participate in ancillary services markets as soon as they are launched
- Participating in relevant DSO and NGESO tenders
- Understanding and negotiating improvement to our fixed costs
- Evaluating the best time to augment and repower assets
- Maintaining regulatory compliance of our assets
- Chairing monthly asset management reviews to report performance to the Senior Leadership Team and other key stakeholders from the perspective of:
- Health and Safety
- Availability
- Market performance
- Commercial performance
- Financial performance (accounts prepared by our finance team)
The Skills you'll need
- "Ops never stops!" You'll need experience of managing a portfolio of operational energy assets.
- Experience with BESS
- A solid understanding of the GB electricity market
- Excellent communications skills
Package Details
Salary: GBP 115,000 - GBP 130,000
