Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Masters Degree in relevant field or management or relevant subject or evidence of significant practical application of expertise at this level.
  • Postgraduate qualification within a leadership programme or evidence of practical expertise at this level
  • Evidence of continuing relevant professional and personal development.

Desirable criteria

  • Healthcare Planning related qualification, training or equivalent relevant experience

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Demonstrable experience at a senior clinical / nursing level or professional leadership within the NHS
  • Knowledge and/or experience of capital projects in a clinical environment (new build/and/or refurbishment) which may have been gained through a variety of operational and/or other experiences

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of developing new healthcare facilities and/or healthcare related building changes from a clinical/nursing perspective.
  • Experience of leading successfully on a programme of work to improve health care service delivery and clinical practice within a capital projects environment.
  • Experience of transitioning to new or refurbished healthcare facilities and/or being involved in commissioning processes for new or refurbished healthcare facilities.

Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Experience of actively leading service improvements across multiple clinical areas.
  • Specialist knowledge and experience of managing budgets and financial resources, including the associated processes such as budget setting and financial planning.
  • Specialist knowledge and experience of human resources management, communicating highly complex and contentious information to individuals and large groups including Clinical and non Clinical Directors.
  • Experience of leading successfully on programmes of work to improve health care service delivery and clinical practice.

Communication and Relationship Skills

Essential criteria

  • Proven leadership skills and development of a team.
  • Ability to work with clinical and nursing staff at all levels and be able to drive forwards improvements to clinical and non-clinical environments and develop business change plans.
  • Highly effective written communication skills including report writing, policy development and executive briefings.
  • Provide and receive highly complex, sensitive and contentious information, negotiate with senior staff and external stakeholders on difficult and controversial issues, and present complex and sensitive information to large and influential groups
  • Negotiate on difficult and very complex detailed issues.

Analytical and Judgement Skills

Essential criteria

  • Ability to understand and challenge clinical accommodation requirements and the ability to think how services and activities can be delivered in a more flexible manner.
  • An ability to understand the relationships and interfaces between clinical planning and other building processes and requirements e.g. Facilities Management.
  • Excellent problem solving skills using team when appropriate and ability to respond to sudden unexpected demands.
  • Ability to think laterally, identify and evaluate options and present workable solutions.

Planning and Organisation Skills

Essential criteria

  • Excellent organisation skills.
  • Ability to sustain high workload through times of service and organisational pressure.
  • Ability to diagnose and take remedial action where programmes are slipping from their targets.

If you are aged 16 or 17 and applying for a role that is more than 20 hours a week, please be aware that you will be asked to commence an Apprenticeship within the Trust alongside your role, as long as there is a suitable apprenticeship standard available. This is in line with the current guidance in England that whilst young people under the age of 18 can leave school (on the last Friday in June) they must then do one of the following:

  • Stay in full-time education, for example at a college
  • Start an Apprenticeship
  • Spend 20 hours of more a week working or volunteering, while in part-time education or training

Salary: The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.

ID and Right to work checks: NUH authenticate ID and right to work documentation including passports and driving licenses through a system called Trust ID. NUH will scan your ID and right to work documentation in to the Trust ID system at your face to face ID appointment. The system will run a check against the key security features within your documentation. The system will provide us with an outcome of your check which will be stored securely on your personal file along with all other pre-employment check documentation.

Consent:

  • Transfer of information: If I have previous NHS service - I consent to the transfer of my Electronic Staff Record (ESR) data between this and other NHS Trusts. I also consent to the Occupational Health Department confidentially accessing my occupational health records from my current or previous employer in order to check the status of my vaccinations, immunisations s and screening tests as relevant to the post. I understand this is an automated process and the information will only be used for these purposes prior to me taking up the position at NUH.
  • Disclosure and Barring Service: Your post maybe subject to a DBS check which incur a cost dependent on the level of check required (£42.90 for enhanced and £22.90 for standard). I agree to reimburse Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust the cost of a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check if it is required (by deduction from first month's pay). Should I decide to withdraw from my job offer, I agree to reimburse Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust the cost of the DBS check undertaken by cheque or other agreed method.
