Head of City Office

This job is brought to you by Jobs/Redefined, the UK's leading over-50s age inclusive jobs board.

Job description
Full Time, Permanent

This is an exciting position leading Bristol's award-winning City Office team to coordinate Bristol's One City Partnership.

Many forces are shaping Bristol's path as a city, including national government policy, migration, trade, markets, conflict and climate change. Meanwhile specific challenges such as an ageing population, social inequality, and unsustainable resource consumption demand a rapid response. The One City Approach is Bristol's response.

We are looking for a dynamic and delivery focused individual to lead the City Office, a small team hosted by the council and co-funded by partners which coordinates the One City Approach.

You will need to demonstrate a strong track record of service or team management, outcome-focused delivery and strategic planning, with excellent communications and negotiation skills. You will be confident leading within a fast-paced environment which can be subject to rapid change, and will be able to originate both strategic and operational responses to arising opportunities and challenges in the city.

As Head of City Office you will be the lead officer for the One City Approach, responsible for the City Office service, managing the most senior internal and external stakeholder relationships, raising funding and negotiating in-kind contributions, developing strategy (including responsibility for production of the One City Plan) and overseeing City Office support and delivery of key projects and priorities within the One City Plan.

You will work with the council's most senior political leaders and officers, and their counterparts at major anchor institutions in the city, to help set strategic direction for One City and ensure it is enacted in practice, whether directly through the City Office or by convening and catalysing other partners and resources.

Why Bristol City Council?

At Bristol City Council, we go that extra mile for our people; we offer a work environment which is fast moving and supportive, giving you the chance to use your skills and develop new ones within a high-profile organisation. Join us and you'll receive an excellent rewards package membership of the Local Government Pension scheme, and a generous annual leave allowance. In addition, you'll be working in a supportive environment where you'll have the chance to make Bristol a better place and contribute to its future.
