Head of Care Operations (Maternity Cover)

Salary: £48,177.50 (FTE £52,572.00 pa)
Hours: 41 hours per week (shift pattern)
Term: Permanent Term Time Contract (39 weeks per annum / 37 weeks + 10 days)
Setting: Mary Hare Schools (Primary, Secondary & Sixth Form)
Location: Snelsmore Common, Newbury
Role Start Date: 2nd December 2024

What we're looking for

Reporting to the Director of Care you'll be required to lead and manage Mary Hare's residential care team to provide the highest quality of care and attain and maintain excellent standards across the residential care division attaining the best possible outcomes for children and young people.

Candidates will have Registered Manager experience or experience of running residential service in a registered residential children's provision or within a residential special school and their motivation will demonstrate the highest commitment to children and young people within our provision.

Mary Hare educates 250 profoundly deaf children at its residential school in Berkshire, and we pride ourselves on our pupils' achievements at GCSE, A Level as well as B Tech and Vocational Courses. Our boarding provision enables our pupils to experience a safe and homely environment while they live away from family. No knowledge of sign language is required, as we follow an auditory/oral philosophy.

What you need to bring.

To be successful in the role we think you'll need the following competencies:

  • Lead and manage the residential care team to provide the highest quality of care and attain and maintain excellent standards focused on the best possible outcomes for children and young people.
  • Be part of an active and visible leadership team who are responsible for developing and sustaining a culture of excellence and continuous improvement in the residential provision by ensuring effective management, organisation, delivery and quality of all care services and activities in line with and exceeding National Minimum Standards and Quality Standards
  • Ensure the progress of children and young people across the residential care setting is effectively measured and recorded, using appropriate and relevant data, and that suitable targets are shared with pupils, parents and colleagues
  • Lead the care team to perform to the highest standards and play an active part in the strategic direction of the school through its residential provision for pupils
  • Have a clear integrated approach to working with SALT, Pastoral, SENCO and Education colleagues placing the best interests of the children and young people at the centre of their practice
  • Experienced in leadership and management in an education or residential childcare setting
  • Passionate about supporting young people with additional needs
  • Outstanding skills in forming positive relationships and developing positive partnerships
  • Self-motivated and driven by opportunities to make a positive difference children and young people
  • Have a firm understanding of the National Minimum Standards for Residential Special School
  • Have a level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management for Residential Childcare (or equivalent) or be willing to work towards
  • Efficient at monitoring essential compliance
  • A highly skilled communicator
  • Positive, resourceful, innovative
  • Skilled at managing and supporting a large team
  • Practical and constructional
  • Able to be part of an on call rota
