Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Head of Cancer Services is the managerial focal point for all cancer related aspects across the Trust

Plan, co-ordinate, manage and develop all aspects of Cancer Services for the Trust in accordance with local and national directives.

Responsibility for providing a strategic direction and for the development of cancer services within the Trust ensuring the Trust has a cancer strategy that will enable the achievement of the national cancer agenda.

Delivery of the annual cancer quality surveillance programme, working in partnership with the Trust Lead Cancer Clinician is an integral aspect of this role.

Responsible for the operational day to day running of the cancer services.

The development of high quality, clinically effective patient centred services.

Deliver cost efficient services, through the effective leadership, management and deployment of resources.

Essential criteria

  • Master's Degree level or equivalent qualification

Desirable criteria

  • Post graduate health or management qualification or equivalent

  • A management qualification e.g. post graduate diploma in management studies (DMS) or equivalent

Desirable criteria

  • Evidence of recent continuous professional development at a senior level to include leadership development
  • Relevant clinical qualification

  • Substantial experience, knowledge and proven track record of delivering cancer services, national indicates in an acute hospital.

  • A proven track record in planning and delivering projects and targets in the NHS

  • Evidence of implementation of innovative practice
