Job Title: Head of Business Development (Product & Capability)
Location: Rochester
Salary: £85,000 + depending on experience with executive benefits
What you’ll be doing:
- Working as part of the Rochester Business Centre (RBC) Business Development (BD) Leadership team to ensure the strategic growth opportunities of the RBC are delivered, with a particular focus on the Products and Capabilities required to win key opportunities in a competitive international market
- Leading the product-centric BD team to strengthen relationships between BD and the product lines and ensure that an outward facing, customer focussed emphasis is brought to bear in the development of our product roadmaps and capture strategies to enhance our competitiveness and increase the Probability of Win (PWin) on key campaigns
- Leading and developing a team of 3 BD Managers to lead or contribute to the following: product & technology road-mapping, market informed capability development, competitive intelligence gathering and dissemination, opportunity analysis and selection and campaign strategy development/delivery
- Ensuring collaboration across the RBC (with integrated capture teams and other functions) to ensure external intelligence on customer needs, competitive product offerings and market dynamics are fully represented in business planning and execution activities
- Seeking new business opportunities that are consistent with both the Business Area and Sector strategies by leveraging our products, capabilities and technologies, customer intimacies, and intercompany collaboration opportunities
Your skills and experiences:
- Strong business acumen with a proven track record in bid and capture management
- Proven strength in Collaboration and Teamwork – e.g. cross functional integrated teams
- Proven understanding of the business development function and its operation – either from previous experience in a BD role or in a role that worked in conjunction with BD to support their activity or leveraged their output
- Demonstrated understanding of the International Aerospace and Defence market environment and the development and fulfilment of customer needs
- Good understanding of product portfolios and how they deliver customer benefit
- Ability to maintain a ‘growth mindset’ and appropriate aptitude to hire, mentor, coach and train BD and business area personnel to support business growth priorities
- Good communication and presentation skills – written and oral – and experience of interfacing at a senior level, both internally and within the customer community
- Capable of tailoring business winning processes and leveraging business winning tools (e.g., Price-to-win, Colour reviews) to ensure lean, effective business winning
- Promoting a positive culture and ensure an environment of teamwork and inclusiveness
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills to resolve issues in a variety of complex situations, often including considerable areas of uncertainty, without supervision

The Business Development team:
The Rochester Business Centre’s business development team is a well-established, productive group that operates in international markets. We are seeking a new Head of Business Development for Products and Capabilities to take on a leadership position in the Business Development function.
This position is essential to the RBC Front End of The Business (FEOTB) activity because it makes sure we have a portfolio of competitive, high-quality products that we promote as efficiently as possible. To maximize the BD function’s accountability and commitment to the execution of RBC campaigns and provide the RBC with targeted business growth, the position necessitates strong collaboration with the product lines.
