Head of Building Control - Richmond and Wandsworth Councils

Salary: Up to £93,508 (pay award pending)

Are you ready to lead one of London's most diverse and exciting Building Control services? Richmond and Wandsworth Councils are seeking an exceptional Head of Building Control to drive innovation and excellence across two dynamic London boroughs.

About the role:

As our new Head of Building Control, you'll have the unique opportunity to lead two distinct teams across Richmond and Wandsworth, managing diverse challenges from historic buildings to cutting-edge developments. You'll oversee high-profile projects, including the iconic Battersea Power Station redevelopment, shaping the future of building safety in South West London while working closely with the new Building Safety Regulator.

You'll manage separate budgets and strategies for each borough, maximising efficiency and innovation. This position provides an unparalleled chance to develop your career by working across two boroughs, significantly enhancing your CV with broad and varied experience.

As a key leader in the region, you'll have the opportunity to influence building control policies and practices across London and beyond. You'll also take charge of safety advisory groups for major sports grounds and events, ensuring public safety at some of the capital's most prominent venues.

The role spans two distinct London boroughs, each with its own unique challenges and opportunities. While the two boroughs operate as separate entities with distinct budgets, you'll have the opportunity to foster collaboration in areas such as technical support, dangerous structures out-of-hours rota, and staff training. This dual-borough responsibility offers a unique perspective on the diverse building control landscape in London, from small domestic projects to large-scale urban regeneration.

Who we're looking for:

We are looking for a leader who will bring extensive experience in Building Control, with a proven track record of leadership in a complex urban environment. You should possess strong technical knowledge of building regulations, fire safety, and emerging construction technologies. Your ability to navigate the unique challenges of both an inner and outer London borough will be crucial to your success in this role.

We're seeking someone with excellent stakeholder management skills, capable of working effectively with elected members, developers, and residents, who thrive working in a fast paced environment and has a deep commitment to public service and safety. You should have a strategic mindset, driving service improvements and financial sustainability across both boroughs.

We're looking for a dynamic leader ready to take our Building Control service to new heights. This is a rare opportunity to make your mark on two of London's most desirable boroughs, shaping the future of their built environments.

Join us in shaping the future of South West London's built environment and be at the forefront of building safety and innovation in the capital.
