Job overview

As the Head of Application Support you will be responsible for the overall management and support of the Trust applications portfolio. This is a specialist role which will champion the adoption of application management best practice across the Trust to ensure the safety and security of data, and the quality and reliability of systems. Work with the devolved application support teams in clinical divisions to ensure all Trust systems, whether supported by the central IT team or the devolved clinical teams, meet the same high standards of support and management good practice. The post is key to delivering improved business operations and realising the value of the Trust investment in its application portfolio.

Imperial are one of four Acute Trusts in North West London who are working together as an Acute Provider Collaborative to implement a shared suite of clinical and administrative applications. This is exciting an opportunity for you to work with your colleague's at Chelsea & Westminster, London North West and Hillingdon, to deliver the North West London ICS Digital Strategy.

Main duties of the job

The Head of Applications is a specialist role which will lead a number of teams to maintain, run and provide secure reliable systems. The post is key to delivering improved business operations and realising the value of the Trust investment in its application portfolio. The post holder will be the Application Management teams' strategic leader within the Trust and will require an extensive knowledge of application management best practice as well as a working knowledge and experience of the technical infrastructure which hosts the application's environment.

The Post holder will have responsibility for multiple cross site teams delivering application support within the ICT Division. The Post holder has responsibility for delivering a standards lead approach to ensure all Trust IT applications are managed to Trust standards.

The post holder will deputise for the Head of ICT Operations and attend meetings when the Head of ICT Operations is not available; this will include Trust Boards and Committees and any other meeting as required.

The post holder will be the lead representative for the Trust at key external meetings as required, including the North West London (NWL) New Systems Committee. Represent Imperial at the joint NWL Acute Provider Collaborative forums and the joint Cerner Change Board

Essential criteria

  • Relevant first degree
  • Recognised management qualification at postgraduate level and/or experience

Desirable criteria

  • Relevant postgraduate qualification
  • Evidence of continuous professional development and Professional qualifications (e.g. ITIL)

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Track record of developing and translating strategic direction into deliverable, measurable outcomes
  • Track record of success in delivering change and project management
  • Proven track record in successfully directing and managing teams and leading the delivery of multiple concurrent technical functions
  • Significant managerial experience at very Senior Manager and delivering strategic change
  • Directing the scoping, planning and management of Trust wide financial IT plans to successfully deliver challenging targets and deliverables

Desirable criteria

  • Managing a team providing applications support function for a large scale Cerner EPR site

Skills/knowledge/ abilities

Essential criteria

  • Ability to complete complex tasks requiring coordination of several senior managers within a specified deadline
  • Ability to constructively challenge and handle highly contentious issues across multiple stakeholder groups in a professional manner
  • Comfortable with relevant IT software packages
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts and terms to a non-technical audience
  • Great leadership and people management skills
