Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This is not a training post and does not have specific Royal College or Postgraduate approval; however prospective Deanery, SAC + PMETB approval can be sought. This post would suit a senior orthopaedic trainee who is developing an interest in hand and wrist surgery and would like further experience in this specialist field. We would welcome applicants from overseas.

There will be an emphasis on more orthopaedic procedures (arthroscopic wrist surgery, joint replacements, carpal instability) on the elective side but equal exposure to soft tissue/ plastics procedures on the trauma side (flexor tendons, nerve repairs, soft tissue reconstruction).

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • MRCS or equivalent

Desirable criteria

  • FRCS (orth) or FRCS(Plast) or equivalent
  • Registered/ applying for The BSSH Diploma in hand surgery or the European equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Hand Surgery Experience
  • Good Communicator
  • Publications/ Presentations/ Audits
  • Teaching experience

Desirable criteria

  • Hand and Wrist Fixation course
  • ATLS
