Qualifications
Essential criteria
- BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science or equivalent (grand-parented)
- MSc or equivalent qualification to FIBMS Standard
- HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist
- Recognised Management Qualification / Training or extensive management experience
- Proof of on-going CPD
Desirable criteria
- Project managment qualification
- Teaching qualification
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience as Haematology or Blood Transfusion Laboratory Lead
- Experience in a senior Biomedical Scientist position
- Experience of operational management
- Experience of laboratory information systems
- Extensive experience of highly specialised complex laboratory techniques
- Proven information resource skills including spread sheets and databases. Manipulation and processing of data for departmental statistics
- Experience in financial control and preparation of budgets including successful identification of efficiency savings
- Experience in service development and business planning
- Evidence of change management
Desirable criteria
- Experience in a professional role such as UKAS Assessor, IBMS Examiner, participation in development of EQA schemes, teaching Biomedical Science
Skills and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Managerially competent in a range of operational areas including Technical, Quality, Health and Safety, Human Resources and Finance
- Comprehensive understanding of the professional training/education agenda
- Experience of active participation in UKAS quality assessments & accreditation visits
- Experience of using a range of IT applications, including Microsoft Office and Pathology computer systems
- Up-to-date knowledge of UKAS Standards and their application within the area of expertise
- Effective listening, motivational, negotiation and delegation skills
- Ability to analyse complex issues/problems and determine corrective action
- Planning of short, medium and long-term goals
- Management of complex programs and projects through to completion
- Ability to convert strategic plans into working models and policies and procedures into action
