  • Delivering our CRSTS Strategic Corridors programme

  • Making school journeys safer and increasing walking and cycling by implementing School Streets;
  • Trialling and testing new transport technologies through our 'Future Transport Zones' programme of work.

Bristol sits within a strong economic area, working with its neighbouring cities and towns to maximise economic growth through the West of England Combined Authority, West of England Local Enterprise Partnership and Western Gateway.

An exciting full-time opportunity exists as Group Manager Area Engineering as part of the Local Transport Team within City Transport Service

What will I be doing?

As part of a friendly and enthusiastic multi-disciplinary team, you will take the lead for one of two Area Teams in the Local Transport team overseeing Area Engineering schemes, Liveable Neighbourhoods and contributing to the wider strategic transport scheme programme. This is a new team formed as part of a restructure from existing teams and presents an opportunity for a strong leader to shape the team and set its objectives in unison with the Local Transport Manager and the new Bristol Committee.

You will provide direct support to the Local Transport Manager in the delivery of the aims and objectives of the City Transport service. You will also take a lead in supervising and mentoring staff and developing the new team. This is a varied role that will be a key liaison between the Transport Service and local Councillors while also delivering local traffic projects and inputting into wider strategic projects and policies.

What do I need to have?

You will have significant experience in transport related roles in a local authority context. Being able to communicate complex requirements to various stakeholders from junior team members to local councillors and Area Committees is essential.

Experience of managing and delivering complex work programmes is a must and the postholder will be expected to manage and report on their programme of works.

This is a new service made of existing teams with a number of new posts and vacancies to be filled. This will require good people skills and change management experience to develop and lead the team into an effective unit.
