The Role:

We also have a vital role in leading and enabling the sector, helping ensure that the UK continues to be a global leader, with a reputation to match. In meeting these commitments, we must not only maintain excellence in our day-to-day responsibilities, but also ensure that our organisation and our people are properly set for the future. These are exciting but exceptionally challenging times: we are helping chart a course to environmentally sustainable aviation; we need to ensure that UK aerospace continues to thrive outside the EU; we need to create the right environment for new technologies, including through our relatively new role as the UK's Space regulator; we need to do more to promote innovation, STEM, and diversity in aerospace; and we need to develop further our ability to match consumers' expectations, achieving this through our people and creating a culture that enables them to thrive.

We are not a static organisation: we evolve and adapt, at pace when necessary, and we are growing, both in the number of people in the Civil Aviation Authority and the range of our responsibilities. Our workforce is becoming more diverse, as are our roles representing the public we protect, highly skilled and strongly motivated by the importance of our public service role. But there is yet more to do, and you will be at the forefront ,in dealing with major policy issues with senior industry, general aviation, aerospace. Building effective relationships and handling difficult conversations and government stakeholders.

Reporting to the CEO, the Group Director Safety & Airspace Regulation Group, will be expected to take a broad view of strategy and policy and be active in working with others to shape the future policy environment. The role is unique & challenging, offering the successful candidate the opportunity to help make a lasting impact to the public and the UK; the opportunity to contribute to key national policy issues; and the opportunity to be at the forefront of the aviation and aerospace industry as it evolves, innovates and changes to meet environment and sustainability challenges, whilst being at the forefront of space and new ways of travel. In addition, you will also learn about and get involved in a broad range of work through the ExCo and Board roles.

If you are a highly experienced leader in Safety with Aviation and Aerospace regulation experience, who thrives on change and delivery, we'd encourage you to apply.
