We have rapidly grown into the UK's leading team of UK grid experts, with an exceptionally strong customer base who are demanding ever more services from our expert grid team. To keep up with this growth and to continue delivering innovative and high-quality services to our customers, we are now looking for an exceptional individual to lead our grid consulting team.
This is a senior role reporting directly to the Managing Director. The Grid Consulting Director will lead, motivate, and support an already highly performing team. Key to this role is supporting our team of grid connection managers with technical, regulatory, and commercial support. The key duties of the role are:
What you'll be doing
- Leadership: Lead, motivate, and support the grid consulting team, ensuring high performance and professional development.
- Technical and Commercial Support: Provide guidance and support on technical issues, regulatory matters, and commercial decisions, especially in high voltage DNO/IDNO connections.
- Customer Service: Ensure the team delivers outstanding service to all customers, maintaining strong client relationships and addressing their needs effectively.
- Business Development: Identify and develop new grid services to expand the consulting business unit.
- Financial Management: Take responsibility for the financial performance of the team and contribute to budgeting and forecasting.
- Cross-functional support: Work closely with other business units to support company-wide initiatives and projects.
- Strategy Contribution: Actively participate in the development and execution of the company's growth strategy.
What we're looking for
We are looking for an exceptional individual who has both the direct experience and knowledge for the role, and the ability to add to our forward-thinking, positive, and supportive culture.
The ideal person will be a senior engineer within the electricity industry with a proven leadership track record in areas related to high voltage DNO/IDNO connections. You will likely have spent time in a senior position within a DNO/IDNO and have a background in connections - including detailed electrical design.
Key Experience and Skills:
- Technical Expertise: Deep experience with DNO connections and a strong understanding of legislation, statutory instruments, and regulations surrounding grid connections.
- Leadership: Proven ability to lead, inspire, and manage a high-performing technical team.
- Industry Experience: Significant experience in a senior role within a DNO or IDNO, with expertise in electrical design and connections.
- HV Network Design: Knowledge of HV network design, preferably up to 132kV.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with connection charging methodologies, transmission connections, Statement of Works, Project Progression, and Appendix G process.
- Qualifications: Degree in Electrical Engineering, and ideally Chartered Engineer status (or working towards it)
- Communication Skills: Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.

Please note this role will require some business travel within the UK and Ireland for client and site meetings, where of course all costs (travel, accommodation subsistence) are paid.
