Job Description
The Global Transfer Pricing Senior Manager will partner closely with the Tax Director, International and TP (ITP) to provide high impact transfer pricing (TP) support to Smiths during a time of significant change in the global tax environment and a new beginning for Smiths as it focuses on high-performance industrial technology businesses. Acting as the Group's TP technical expert, the role will lead complex tax advisory and controversy projects and serve as the global process owner for standard TP audits and outsourced TP compliance managed across the ITP team. The role offers an excellent opportunity to strengthen practical problem-solving abilities, enhance business partnering skills, and gain exposure to a broader range of tax areas.
This is a full-time and permanent position. Based in our Central Birmingham office 4 days per week.
Duties
- Commercial
- Support the Tax Director, ITP in developing and implementing the Smiths Group TP strategy. This will include assessing the impact of an evolving business and external tax environment, proposing short and medium term objectives and continuing to reassess prioritisation as the strategy progresses.
- Build strong relationships across finance, legal, and operations to proactively manage tax risk and support growth initiatives.
- Support the Tax Director, ITP in providing forecasting, risk and provisioning support to the Corporate Tax team.
- Technical
- Lead and deliver TP advisory projects to support short and medium term business initiatives. This will include working in multi-functional teams to deliver all phases of planning, feasibility, detailed design and implementation of operational TP processes.
- Lead complex TP controversy projects and provide TP support to Tax and Finance sub teams managing multiple tax audits occurring globally. This includes close collaboration with tax advisors and finance stakeholders.
- Partner with external advisors to build and implement annual TP compliance processes including the creation of central content and analyses and supporting the ITP team to oversee local file preparation within their respective regions.
- Monitor and evaluate OECD developments and changes in TP legislation in material territories and advise on risks and opportunities to the business.
- Systems & processes
- Coordinate with internal teams, external advisors and internal stakeholders to manage tax-related projects from planning through execution, ensuring deliverables are completed accurately, on time, and within scope.
- Utilise group continuous improvement tools to drive process improvement across internal processes including use of relevant technologies.
Qualifications
Technical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Significant in-house TP and international tax experience, ideally within a large FTSE or multinational environment.
- Strong OECD based technical TP knowledge is critical with particular focus on intangibles, value chain analysis and business restructuring.
- Proven ability to develop and propose TP policies that balance technical robustness and practical administration.
- Broad TP controversy experience (including audit, APA, MAP) including audit strategy development, fieldwork management and negotiation of audit outcomes.
- Extensive experience in designing and managing the delivery of TP compliance across diverse international requirements, balancing risk management with operational efficiency while managing relationships with advisors and key finance and tax stakeholders.
- Experience working with and balancing the needs of multiple countries across developed and developing markets is highly desirable.
- Must be a strong communicator with the ability to develop and leverage stakeholder relationships across regions and cultures.
- Excellent project management skills, with a strong sense of ownership and the ability to manage multiple priorities and competing demands.
- Able to operate autonomously with a strong ambition to develop as a commercially minded TP professional.
