We have an exciting opportunity for a Global Senior Acquisitions Manager FTC to join the Acquistions team.

It is an exciting time at UKTV and BBC Studios with brilliant new channels and services launching. The Senior Acquisitions Manager is a new role in the team and will bring fresh expertise into the team, the role will be focussed on negotiating high profile and high value on demand and linear deals with US Studios and key Indies. This new role will also manage three Global Acquisitions Managers.

In this role you will get to:

  • Contribute to the success of our linear and on demand services by sourcing and acquiring content from from top US Studios and key Indies.
  • Work on brilliant channel brands including Dave, Alibi and BBC Earth.
  • Negotiate complex and interesting deals across multiple territories.
  • Line manage three Global Acquisitions Managers to develop, nurture and support them to do their best work.
  • Work with the Global Head of Acquisitions on strategy and business plans for new branded services and deputise at senior board meetings.
  • Work closely with editorial stakeholders across BBCS and UKTV, building and maintaining strong relationships and ensuring effective collaboration and communication

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Experience of managing, mentoring and developing people on a day to day basis
  • Substantial acquisitions and negotiation experience, including the negotiation of complex finished tape and film deals with US Studios and pre-sale/co-production deals directly with producers.
  • Extensive experience in acquiring content for on demand services, including AVOD and SVOD deals.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the international content market and the ability to assess content pipelines and discern what may or may not work well, and what is editorially appropriate, for our channels and VOD services
  • An understanding of evolving audience requirements and the wider media industry

Who you are:

  • Demonstrable knowledge of the international content market and the ability to assess content pipelines and discern what may or may not work well, and what is editorially appropriate, for our channels and VOD services.
  • Experience of managing, motivating and developing people on a day to day basis.
  • Strong acquisitions and negotiation experience, including experience in negotiating complex deals with US Studios and pre-sale/co-production deals.
  • Someone who is able to build positive and productive working relationships internally and externally
  • A great communicator who can also act as an ambassador for BBC Studios and UKTV
  • An understanding of programme rights and terms.
  • An understanding of the UKTV channels and BBC-Branded services and their editorial requirements.
  • Strong collaboration skills that enable you to problem-solve and produce positive outcomes with a range of stakeholders across the business.
  • Broad knowledge of BBC Studios' Editorial & Commercial policy.
  • Experience of attending senior board level meetings.
  • Proven track record of being organised and responsive in fast paced environments
  • Adaptable and resilient, able to cope with the pressure of managing the demands of a high volume of work, the various needs of different stakeholders, and meeting tight deadlines.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently requiring excellent organisational skills
  • Has a proactive and flexible approach to work and is comfortable with a dynamic environment with constantly changing priorities.
  • Ability to use own initiative with confidence, using judgment to escalate where necessary.
  • An understanding of evolving audience requirements and the wider media industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • source and negotiate content from external suppliers for multiple linear and non-linear services, leveraging the businesses' joint buying power to maximum effect and co-ordinating across the global portfolio of branded services, including UKTV. Deals will be complex requiring co-ordination across multiple stakeholders and will involve pre-sales and co-productions.
  • manage three Global Acquisitions Managers; develop, motivate and support them to do their best work.
  • input into ROIs and new service business plans and ensuring all deals comply with approved terms, and if not, to present rationale at a senior board level.
  • be the key point of contact for their external suppliers reflecting the supplier-led operating model of the team.
  • contribute to UKTV and BBCS branded services' strategy by providing insight on the acquisitions market as a whole and advising on available content.
  • work with the Global Head of Acquisitions on strategy and business plans for new branded services.
  • deputise for the Global Head of Acquisitions including attending senior meetings as required.
