Global MidCorp Property Underwriting Lead (m/f/d)

We are looking for a Global MidCorp Property Underwriting Lead (m/f/d), based either in Munich (Germany) or London (UK).

The Impact You Will Have

Reporting to the Global Head of Property MidCorp, you will define and implement underwriting strategy within the MidCorp segment with focus on definition of global underwriting framework, risk appetite, portfolio steering criteria and CAT exposure management. You will also support the underwriting of MidCorp property portfolios across the regions promoting growth and profitability.

Moreover, you will manage complex referrals from underwriters and spokes. You will also train, develop and coach experienced staff (including local senior underwriters).

Some of your specific responsibilities could include:

  • Analyze portfolio performance to define risk appetite and Underwriting rules to be implemented to support business strategy.
  • Support different organizational entities with the implementation of the global strategy adapted to local conditions based on portfolio steering.
  • Contribute to define criteria to manage CAT exposure at global and local level.
  • Getting a close knowledge of market specifics at the organizational entity level interacting with key stakeholders internally (CUOs, Line Managers, RMD) and externally (brokers, reinsurers, etc.).
  • Frequent presence in the different markets to represent CUO office and monitor the implementation of global projects at the country level.
  • Close monitoring of P&L supporting organizational entities to define tactical actions to manage deviations and reaching planned objectives.
  • Make underwriting decisions aligned with Line of Business (LoB) Functional rules, underwriting authorities and global strategy in referrals received by central CUO office.
  • Interact with key stakeholders to align decisions with portfolio objectives.
  • Support Allianz Academies in existing training courses acting as facultee and developing and updating training materials
  • Support the development of less experienced underwriters organizing specific trainings and being part of global development initiatives.

What You'll Bring to the Role

  • Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Economics, Business administration, or other appropriate discipline.
  • 5 years+ of experience underwriting Property business including multinational business.
  • Ideally you are CII qualified or equivalent or working towards it.
  • Proven experience in leading complex projects, ideally across international organizations.
  • Strong expertise in assessing risk inherent exposures and natural hazards.
  • Specialized understanding of regional / local LoB insurance markets and competitor landscape, including global elements.
  • Ability to analyze current performance against benchmarks applying how the market operates and functions, the business and customer needs
  • Robust understanding of policy administration life cycle, information collection, policy issuance, premium bookings, credit control, cancellation.
  • Ability to negotiate effectively achieving the best outcome for your portfolio while maintaining positive business relationships with your clients and brokers
  • You have recognized relationships with clients and brokers at peer group level and are well established within your reference market.
  • Good understanding of legal and regulatory framework.
  • Outstanding analytical skills with ability to analyze complex data / information from multiple sources.
  • Outstanding presentation skills and communication skills with the ability to persuade and motivate others to act, without executive authority.
  • Experience working in a complex, global matrix organization along with outstanding intercultural skills.
  • Fluent English skills, any other languages advantageous.
