Geospatial Surveyor (Senior / Principal)
This job is brought to you by Jobs/Redefined, the UK's leading over-50s age inclusive jobs board.
Join Tetra Tech and apply your geospatial survey expertise to projects that shape infrastructure, water and environmental outcomes. Work with advanced LiDAR, UAV, GNSS and photogrammetry toolsets, lead high-performing teams and deliver technically rigorous surveys that make a measurable difference.
Purpose & Scope of the Role
You will lead planning and delivery of complex geospatial survey programmes (topographic, control, boundary, measured building, volumetric) across multidisciplinary projects. The role combines hands-on field leadership with responsibility for survey methodology, equipment maintenance (GNSS/GPS, total stations, terrestrial/mobile LiDAR, UAV platforms), data processing and production of CAD/3D/point-cloud deliverables. You will prepare method statements, risk assessments and ensure compliance with standards and client specifications.
Your Impact in this position
As Principal/Senior Geospatial Surveyor you will mentor and develop junior surveyors, set QA/QC standards for field acquisition and processing, and act as the technical lead on client engagement and bid inputs. Your work will improve design accuracy, reduce project risk and support better asset management decisions for clients across infrastructure, energy and environmental sectors.
Core Capabilities
- Leadership & Team Development - Lead, allocate and coach site teams; foster technical growth and safe working practices to raise delivery standards.
- Field Survey Planning & Execution - Design and supervise complex field campaigns using GNSS, total station, laser scanning and UAV photogrammetry/LiDAR with robust QA/QC.
- Geospatial Data Processing & Modelling - Process, register and classify point clouds, perform georeferencing, feature extraction and accuracy assessment to produce CAD, BIM and point-cloud outputs.
- Equipment & Systems Competence - Operate and maintain GNSS/GPS, total stations, terrestrial LiDAR and drone platforms; optimise workflows and troubleshoot on site.
- Client Engagement & Compliance - Define survey scope with clients, prepare technical bid material, method statements and reports while ensuring regulatory and specification compliance.
Training, Qualifications & Experience
Degree or HND in Surveying/Geomatics/Geospatial Science or equivalent experience. Proven experience with GNSS, total station and LiDAR; competent in Leica Reg360/Cyclone, Leica Infinity, AutoCAD, ReCap or equivalents. Strong leadership, client-facing skills and commitment to site safety. Driving licence and willingness to travel. Professional membership (RICS/CICES), UAV operations and Revit modelling desirable.
Working Environment
Primary bases: Leeds, Manchester or Birmingham (flexible). Hybrid working offered - typically 2-3 days per week in the office or client sites, with flexibility for more field-intensive periods. Travel to sites and occasional out-of-hours work may be required.
