At Rye, Winchelsea and District Memorial Hospital we offer outpatients, rehabilitation and intermediate services. At Uckfield Community Hospital we provide day surgery and outpatient care.

In the community, we deliver services that focus on people with long term conditions living well outside hospital, through our integrated locality teams working with district and community nursing teams. Community members of staff also provide care to patients in their homes and from a number of clinics, health centres and GP surgeries.

1 full time secondment opportunity (up to 12 months)

We are looking for a motivated, experienced, proactive and patient -centred individual for the role of General Manager - Specialist Medicine Division at East Sussex Healthcare.

You will support the delivery of high-quality care, as well as leading the implementation of service improvement projects alongside development of further service improvement , working closely with the Clinical Leads and Head of Nursing, whilst supporting the service managers within each service.

It is important that the General Manager is able to work autonomously and use their own initiative to solve problems. With a busy and varied workload, it is key that the post-holder is able to prioritise work where there is competing demands, whilst also leading their team to do the same. Building strong working relationships across the multi-disciplinary and divisional team is important and we are looking for a person who understand the challenges other members of staff face, working with them to achieve the Division's overall objectives.

Main duties of the job

The General Manager will work alongside clinical and non-clinical colleagues to deliver the Specialist Medicine Divisions operational and strategic priorities, line managed by the Divisional Director of Operations for Medicine. This includes working with colleagues within the service, the division as well as with stakeholders outside the division to improve patient flow and pathways.

Be responsible for implementation of strategies and systems that have been devised to achieve specific Trust and national performance targets. Ensure robust business planning and risk management processes are applied to all service performance.

Liaise with CCGs and other key stakeholders to ensure appropriate referral pathways are in place and that activity and income is maximised from the local and wider geographical areas.

You will be responsible for line managing the service managers within medicine, as well as medical administrators.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Relevant Masters degree level qualification or proven equivalent knowledge acquired through extensive experience.
  • Evidence of substantial continuing professional and personal development, including professional management training, strategic planning and performance, people management, budget management and service development.

Desirable criteria

  • NHS or Healthcare General Manager Experience with a focus on performance and delivery.
  • Programme and/or project management qualification

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Extensive broad experience of working within NHS or other acute, complex healthcare organisation in senior operational managerial roles, to include managing large budgets, major staffing groups and service delivery across a range of services
  • Minimum 3 years Service Management experience within Secondary Care
  • Proven experience of management leadership exercised through/alongside senior clinical staff
  • Proven ability of managing resources; people, finance, contracts and materials
  • Expert in managing constitutional standards for the NHS
  • Able to manage large groups of staff including Consultants
  • Proven track record of change management and modernisation
  • Significant experience of effective working with clinicians and the multi - disciplinary team
  • Proven change management skills
  • Experience/evidence of managing operational level projects, delivering targets within constraints and on time

Desirable criteria

  • Experience in doctors job planning and rota organisation.
  • Experience in different Digital solutions across the NHS.

Skills

Essential criteria

  • Knowledge of developments in the NHS with a specific understanding of the service provided.
  • Knowledge of performance targets (particularly within Secondary Care ), access and modernisation service developments and their impact on service delivery within the NHS.
  • Ability to communication effectively at a senior level and develop and maintain key business relationships
  • Ability to assimilate highly complex facts or situations requiring analysis, interpretation and comparison of a range of options.
  • Demonstrates advanced planning and organising skills across a broad range of complex activities, formulating and adjusting plans and strategies.
  • Able to demonstrate budget management skills including the ability to identify variances, put corrective plans into action.
  • Able to manage large groups of staff including Consultants.
  • Report- & Business case writing skills including ability to present information logically and concisely and with impact, both verbally and in writing.
  • Evidence of a commitment to supporting and working alongside medical clinicians in management.
