HOW WILL YOU MAKE AN IMPACT?
The estate is based in Pangbourne, Berkshire and is spread across 70 acres of countryside. We offer 'shooting at its very best' whilst providing clients and partners with the opportunity to explore our renowned gun shop, plan an exclusive shooting trip or arrange either a large corporate or a discreet and tailored event.
This role is key to ensuring that Purdey remains a market leader, known for its exceptional standards and commitment to excellence in all that it does. The role will require a charismatic, inspirational and entrepreneurially minded individual to take forward all aspects of this exciting operation whilst acting as the key point person for its diverse stakeholders. The management of it's people is key, whilst also being able to drive sales and manage all commercial aspects of running PRB.
The General Manager will be responsible for the operational management of PRB with the aim of developing its overall long term business performance and further cementing its reputation as a leading venue for shooting excellence and client entertainment.
The GM will work closely with the Chief Executive (CEO) of Purdey, and will continue to develop its long-term strategy and ensure the business is aligned with the wider Group's vision to deliver economic, social and environmental value to all its key stakeholders. This role will also be responsible for the redevelopment and upgrade of the site.
The role is likely to entail some travel to partners on the agency side of the business as well as to industry events, both nationally and possibly sometimes internationally, hence a home base within reasonable commuting distance is suggested, due to responsibilities outside of normal working hours.
HOW WILL YOU EXPERIENCE SUCCESS WITH US?
The successful candidate will possess proven client facing, operational and financial skills (budgeting and P&L management) and will be capable of putting forward compelling and robust business cases for review and discussion.
He / she is likely to have worked in 'fast moving consumer goods' (FMCG) or in a sporting, leisure and / or hospitality context and must be dynamic, innovative and astute in their dealings. Experience of the shooting industry would be a significant advantage but is not a prerequisite. The candidate must be a natural communicator who enjoys presenting and hosting, the appointee will act as a key point of contact for all of Purdey's major stakeholders with the aim of enhancing its brand and reputation.
It is key that the candidate has a strong sales motivation and leadership skills with a smaller business, entrepreneurs mindset.
Experience of sales, operations, marketing and technology will facilitate the successful delivery of the role as will the ability to build and lead a diverse team with clarity and empathy. The ambassadorial nature of the role will require excellent relationship management skills. They will be flexible and sensitive in respecting the wider traditions of the business and have the imagination to retain or adapt these as necessary. An affinity with the countryside and the environment, its heritage and role in delivering economic value is also necessary.
