General Manager, Corporate Actuarial and Chief Risk Officer

The Role:

The General Manager, Corporate Actuarial and Chief Risk Officer leads the Branch's corporate actuarial, risk management and compliance functions. You will be part of the Senior Leadership Team of the Branch, acting as a strategic partner and adviser to the Managing Director.

The role requires excellent leadership skills, a natural curiosity, resilience, drive, strategic perspective, commercial and technical awareness, an ability to communicate clearly and influence stakeholders, and a deep understanding of the company's business environment.

As owner of the Actuarial and Risk Functions within the Branch, you will need to meet the requirement of the UK Senior Management and Certification Regime.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Leadership
• Act as strategic partner to the Managing Director and wider Senior Leadership Team, providing insights and guidance on actuarial, risk management and compliance topics.
• Define and implement the strategic vision for the Corporate Actuarial, Risk Management and Compliance areas in support of the Group and Branch strategies and business objectives.
• Scan the company's business environment to identify emerging risk, develop mitigating or monitoring actions and take ownership for implementing these.
• Drive operational efficiency and continual improvement across the teams.
• Develop and maintain a high performing team and talent pipeline with a depth of skills and experience to manage succession opportunities.
• Act as a role model to foster the purpose, values, and leadership fundamentals of Hannover Re.
• Operate with integrity and professionalism acting as an ambassador for Hannover Re, both internally and externally.

Corporate Actuarial / Actuarial Function
• Ensure the function delivers the outputs and insights required by the business including the production of technical provisions and reserves in accordance with relevant Group, regulatory or statutory requirements.
• Monitor the performance of the in-force portfolio, providing insight and recommendations.
• Set valuation assumptions and providing input into the development of core bases.
• Produce inputs to the capital calculations and validate the output from the Group Internal Capital Model.

Risk Management & Compliance
• Chair the Branch Risk Committee.
• Oversee engagement with Group and the Branch's regulators on risk management and compliance topics.
• Ensure the ongoing effectiveness of the Risk Management and Compliance Functions.
• Embed a positive risk management and compliance culture throughout the organisation, ensuring the appropriate involvement of the Risk Management and Compliance Functions in projects and initiatives.
• Establish a view on material current and emerging risks of the company and regulatory developments, ensuring that these are clearly communicated and support the business to identify and implement actions to monitor, mitigate or address them.
• Oversee production of the Branch ORSA and use of the ORSA as an integral part of the development and monitoring of business strategy.

About You:

Qualifications Required:
• Qualified Actuary with at least 10 years' post qualification experience.

Experience:
• Proven experience building and leading high-performing teams and delivering operational excellence.
• Experience working within an actuarial function at a senior level in the UK (re)insurance market.
• Knowledge of IFRS17 and Solvency II reporting.

Skills:
• Excellent leadership skills, with an ability to motivate employees to achieve the company's mission in an ever changing and dynamic environment.
• Excellent technical ability and analytical skills, with an ability to break down complex issues, identify messages and develop solutions.
• Strong communication and influencing skills, with an ability to create a clear narrative tailored to the needs of the audience.
• An ability to work in a team, interacting across the Branch and Hannover Re Group to develop cross-functional relationships, share and develop best practice and influence positive change.
