Microbiology Manager

As part of our continuous growth, we are seeking an experienced and dynamic Microbiology Laboratory Manager to join our team.

As the Microbiology Manager, you will lead and manage our team of Biomedical Scientists and Medical Laboratory Assistants in the Microbiology Department, ensuring the highest standards of diagnostic services and infection control are maintained. You will play a critical role in supporting patient care, working closely with clinicians, laboratory staff, and other healthcare professionals to deliver efficient and effective microbiology services.

Current scope includes bacteriology, virology (molecular and serology) components and managerial support to the immunology team. Involvement in future developments to transition immunology into the blood sciences department will be required to develop a streamlined service. Participation in the development and implementation of a new LIMS system as part of the Digital Pathology Transformation project.

Main Duties:

- Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the Microbiology Department, including staff management and training.

- Ensure compliance with UKAS accreditation standards and other relevant regulatory frameworks.

- Oversee the processing and analysis of clinical samples to provide accurate and timely diagnostic results.

- Manage department budgets, procurement, and inventory control.

- Implement new technologies and methodologies to improve diagnostic capabilities and laboratory efficiency.

- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and adherence to best practices.

Requirements:

- HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist or equivalent.

- A degree in Microbiology or a related field (MSc or equivalent).

- Significant experience in a microbiology laboratory, with a managerial or leadership role.

- Strong knowledge of clinical microbiology and laboratory accreditation standards (e.g., UKAS).

- Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.

- Well developed communication, organisational, and leadership skills.

The London Clinic Pathology department is committed to providing the best service for our users. We are accredited by UKAS under the ISO15189 standard, and our stem cell service is accredited by JACIE and regulated by the HTA. Our blood transfusion service is regulated by the MHRA.
