The Role
The Gaffer & Console Operator plays a crucial role in the smooth and efficient operation of the lighting department for our Daytime shows, which include Lorraine, This Morning, and Loose Women. This role provides essential technical support to the Lighting & Vision Operator and other crew members, ensuring the lighting setup is executed to the highest standards, contributing to the visual quality and overall success of the show. The role encompasses pre-production preparation, show execution and post show maintenance.
Skills you'll need (minimum criteria)
- Previous experience in a live studio TV environment
- Demonstrable interest in television lighting and production
- Basic understanding of lighting principles and equipment
- Experience working effectively in a fast-paced, live broadcast environment
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills
- Understanding of electrical safety and relevant production electrician qualifications

Technical Skills & Knowledge
- Demonstrable proficiency in using lighting control consoles
- Good knowledge of various lighting fixtures
- Demonstrable understanding of DMX and networking protocols
- Experience in reading and interpret lighting plots and technical drawings
- Proven awareness and knowledge of the relevant Health & Safety legislation, policies and practices in a television studio environment
- Experience in swiftly administering relevant maintenance during live broadcast and in preparation for shows
Working with Others
- Understands the demands of a pressurised environment - awareness of the team's needs and priorities for the programme
- Builds a good rapport with colleagues, and works collaboratively to seek and understand their views and creative vision
- Ability to be a team player and work effectively with different departments across the programme
- Experience in following instructions and work as part of a team
