Department Overview:
The FX, Commodities and Settlements Technology team, part of Global Markets IT, develops a range of systems across these business lines, including client facing web platforms, pricing and risk management systems, booking, confirmation and settlements systems. The team works closely with business and operations stakeholders to ensure that systems meet the needs of the global user base.
Key Responsibilities:
The role is for a manager and lead software engineer for the FX Deal Capture platform. The system requires significant modernisation and the intent is to rewrite the core of the system.
Overall, the team builds, maintains and supports the booking system for FX cash deals (Spot, Forwards, Swaps, NDFs). The core functionality covers trade booking, trade life cycle management, and position management. The systems are vital and there are stringent requirements in terms of quality, reliability and performance.
The candidate must exhibit strong software engineering and management skills. They will have responsibility for team and project management, and delivery. The candidate must be able to interact confidently with business users and to be able to drive change.

Global Markets, ALM, Domestic Markets, Securities Services
Job purpose
- Lead the FX booking platform.
- Responsible for managing the global team and working with business users to define the book of work and to deliver it.
- Architect the modernisation of the platform and plan and execute the project to deliver it.
Key responsibilities
Responsible for leading and managing the FX Deal Capture team and for planning and executing projects within that scope in accordance with the allocated budget and deadlines:
- Defines objectives and project completion deadlines constituting the programme
- Assesses and anticipates potential risks
- Ensures the suitability of needs and resources required by the programme, and defines the resources needed for program activities
- Identifies the impacts of the programme in keeping with the strategy and objectives set by the sponsor and IT management
- Ensure the training needs of the staff members with the Team are identified on a periodic basis, and monitor the training delivered e.g. technical training, soft skills, corporate- agile.
Communication:
- Accurate reporting to Domain management regarding development initiatives and budget consumption.
- Initiating and regularly monitoring Project progress
- Reviewing the Project accomplishments at defined milestones
- Producing Project estimates and roadmap
- Ensuring that Project requirements are implemented and managing change requests
- Followup on production issues.
- Act as a focal point between IT and the business for the FX deal capture programme
- Accountable for overall project delivery
As a Lead Engineer:
- Provide vision and architectural direction for the modernisation of the FX Deal Capture systems
- Ensure software engineering best practice is embedded with the team.
- Lead by example on software quality. Ensure that the systems are designed for performance and reliability in production.
- Contribute to the technology strategy for the wider department.
- Make sure implemented solutions are in line with domain medium to long term strategy and GM IT standards
- Analyse the impact of initiatives and project on bank technical and functional architecture, security and infrastructure. Provide expert advice to ensure the successful adoption and utilisation of new solutions.
- Be recognised as a software engineering expert and provide leadership both within FX Deal Capture and across the wider team.
As a Manager:
- Staff management: Hiring, Appraisals, Performance Management
- Coach, guide and act as a point of escalation for more junior staff.
- Ensure Team/Domain/APS procedures are strictly applied within the team
- Support members of the team by leading in decision making and approach where problems are more complex and require sophisticated analysis or experience.
- Ensure that team members perform in line with IT's overall strategy though adherence to policy and objectives set.
- Reporting and communicating Project progress and status to sponsors
- Managing risks and issues and proposing and applying corrective actions
- Manages relationships with key stakeholders in Front Office and Operations.
- Liaise with stakeholders, team members and other domain experts to capture and elaborate business requirements across domains / systems
- Work with stakeholders to build and present the business case for new developments
- Be recognised as a domain expert in the FX Deal Capture area. Provide advice to stakeholders on IT solutions to meet their needs.
Requirements
Essential
- Degree level or equivalent qualification (ideally in Computing or Engineering)
- Excellent Software Engineering skills
- Strong programming background with a particular emphasis on C# .NET (additional knowledge of C++ would be beneficial)
- Domain expertise in a volume transactional system (FX, Equities or other financial transactions)
- Proven experience of a good rapport with the business and IT community
- Proven experience of working with offshore development teams
- Strong communication skills
- Experience of business-critical system development, testing and support
- Good working knowledge of functional and company-wide policies, procedures, regulations and legislation. Define end-to-end solutions within functional area.
- Experienced people manager and an ability to work with individuals to set individual objectives and manage performance to ensure their delivery.
