Job Description

The Future Operating Model Manager plays a critical role in shaping and implementing Heathrow's aerodrome's future operating model. The role will lead projects and initiatives that prepare the airfield for future operational, regulatory, and technological demands, ensuring Heathrow remains a world leader in safety, resilience, efficiency, and sustainability. Working closely with operational teams, technology partners, regulators, and other stakeholders, the role will drive innovation, enhance operational readiness, and continuously improve the integration of new standards, infrastructure, and technology across the aerodrome. The role is intentionally designed to retain flexibility to evolve as future needs and priorities develop.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver projects that enhance the aerodrome's future operational capabilities, ensuring alignment with Heathrow's strategic vision.
  • Develop and implement operational readiness plans for new technologies, infrastructure projects,
  • Airfield redesigns, and regulatory changes.
  • Identify and evaluate new operational technologies (e.g., automation, AI-based technologies)
  • Manage trials, reporting and operational deployment.
  • Build frameworks that allow future scalability and adaptability of airfield operations.
  • Ensure operational risks are identified early and managed effectively in change initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years' experience in airfield operations, airport projects, operational readiness programs in a Managerial role
  • Strong understanding of aerodrome regulations (ICAO Annex 14, CAA requirements) and operational best practices.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional projects and manage change in a complex operational environment.
  • Experience with innovation programs, automation, or emerging airside technologies.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Desirable Skills

  • Exposure to sustainability initiatives within airport operations.
  • Experience engaging with regulatory bodies or industry groups on future-focused topics.
  • Experience managing people as the post holder will be managing a small team of people within the Business

Working Location

Our Hybrid working approach offers the opportunity for colleagues in some roles to work from home for an average of two days a week, providing the flexibility to work in an agile way whilst ensuring we deliver for the operational needs of Heathrow. Working arrangements vary from team to team and will be confirmed during the recruitment process. You'll need to be based in the UK and within a commutable distance to Heathrow.
