An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Transport Shift Manager to join our B&Q Preston Brook site. This role is part of our Home Delivery Network and as an experienced leader, your experience, drive, and determination will be utilised well within this challenging and rewarding role. 48 hours Contracted Hrs
Salary £34,000 per annum
Tuesday Saturday Operation
Key responsibilities:
- Proactively manage and motivate the team and engage with colleagues to ensure the best performance
- Support and develop the performance of colleagues, where required, conducting disciplinary, grievance and appeal hearings.
- Proactively manage and develop accident reduction initiatives and communication to help contribute to a safer work environment.
- Actively manage KPIs in line with customer expectations, on time delivery windows, customer service levels and voice of the customer on a daily basis.
- Encourage a culture of excellent customer service 'right first time' with the team
- Ensure department operates in line with all company and customer procedures and requirements relating to Health and Safety
- Ensure processes and procedures are adhered to throughout the operation, with focus on health and safety
- Ensure sufficient resource is available to meet performance expectations, including managing recruitment and agencies
- Responsible for driving high levels of employee engagement through development of colleagues, regular 1-2-1 reviews, participation in site activities etc
- Work closely with the warehouse and planning teams
- Ensure that any performance, conduct, or capability issues are thoroughly investigated, and any required resulting actions are completed in a timely manner
- Make any necessary alterations to the transport plan, providing feedback to the Planning team where required
- Ensure the smooth running of the daily deliveries
- Contribute to training and development of yourself and the delivery teams
- Maintain responsibility for performing all duties in compliance with related legal/statutory regulations, professional duties, and obligations
- Responsible for Customer Facing and Dealing with Customer Challenges.
The person will:
- An experienced Shift Manager with customer service focus within in a high-volume transport and warehouse environment
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy
- Experience with a unionised workforce is beneficial
- Good knowledge of transport legislation
- Energetic, resilient, and flexible
- Excellent PC skills including Microsoft Office applications
- Excellent communication skills
- Works well under tight deadlines with a keen eye for detail and a right first-time approach
- Software experience, Kronos time management and Oracle would be an advantage
- Able to work shift work, including weekend working (required)
- Able to implement and manage change
- Able to resource plan, ensure maximum use of resources in cost-effective manner
- People line management and effective people skills
- Clear communication and collaboration at all levels, e.g., customers, colleagues, and direct reports
- High level of self-awareness and takes accountability for own development
