The role

The Financial Reporting Manager will be responsible for accounting, reporting and controllership across the group. This is a newly created role as the business continues to scale and evolve with responsibility for shaping and delivering best-in-class systems, processes and controls.

The role requires someone who is both technically strong and commercially astute. Given the fast paced and dynamic nature of Motorway, this role requires a self-starter with strong skills in prioritisation, communication and cross-functional stakeholder management.

This role will report directly to our Head of Operational Finance.

We are keen to hear from qualified finance professionals (or equivalent) with appropriate post-qualification experience who are looking to make a first move from practice and feel ready for a varied role within a forward thinking business. Alternatively those who have relevant industry experience post-qualification working within a finance function to date within a financial accounting and control capacity would also be relevant here. Backgrounds from all sectors and industries will be considered for the role.

Key responsibilities:

  • Prepare comprehensive technical papers for assessment of key accounting policies, estimates and areas of judgement in accordance with IFRS
  • Document the key processes and controls framework for operational finance cycles including P2P, O2C and R2R
  • Drive improvements in the design and implementation and operating effectiveness of company processes and controls to deliver a best-in-class internal control environment
  • Assess and improve the financial accounting and reporting processes to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
  • Partner with other functions across the business to provide finance, accounting and tax guidance on new product launches
  • Own technical accounting considerations and future developments e.g. share option valuations, acquisition accounting, carbon reporting, new IFRS standards etc.
  • Primary contract responsible for managing the relationship with the external auditors
  • Preparing information required for corporate tax and R&D calculations and liaising with external tax advisors
  • Support the Management Accountant with key month end duties, as required, to deliver a timely close and reporting of results to key stakeholders across the business.
  • Ad-hoc assistance with projects including, for example, M&A, fundraising, exit readiness

Requirements

  • Qualified ACA or equivalent with a track record of continuous professional development
  • Demonstrable post-qualification experience
  • Top 10 or Big 4 trained or relevant industry experience of working in a significant sized company with IFRS and consolidated group reporting
  • Strong knowledge of UK accounting principles and standards (UK GAAP and IFRS)
  • Flexible and comfortable in a changing and growing environment
  • High attention to detail and desire to challenge existing thinking around how we perform our work
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to multitask and prioritise workload
  • Proven communication and interpersonal skills and ability to interact at all levels
  • Strong influencing skills, including the ability to communicate complex financial technical matters to non-technical people
  • Strong proficiency of Excel and Google Sheets
  • Experience with Netsuite would be desirable
