Finance Operations Manager

Greenzone is a nationwide waste-management brokerage business that has recently been acquired by First Mile, a leading waste-management company pursuing a private-equity-backed buy-and-build strategy. This role is dedicated to Greenzone and will lead the finance operations team, ensuring efficient day-to-day operations, strong financial controls, and accurate transactional processing across purchase ledger and credit control, while supporting ongoing post-acquisition change within the business.
Key responsibilities
• Ensure the smooth running of the Finance Operations function.
• Oversee purchase ledger and credit control teams, ensuring effective debtor and creditor management.
• Ensure all deadlines are met and issues are escalated appropriately.
• Perform and review daily bank reconciliations and resolve reconciling items promptly.
• Monitor customer receipts and support credit control activity.
• Produce weekly aged debtor reports and support recovery actions.
• Ensure internal controls are maintained and improved where required.
• Support continuous improvement of financial processes and system usage.
• Provide regular financial and operational reporting as required.
• Line manage, mentor and develop team members, including managing absence and performance.
• Build strong working relationships across finance and wider business teams.
• Contribute to finance leadership discussions and initiatives.
Requirements

• Strong organisational skills with ability to prioritise workload for self and team.

• Strong numerical and analytical ability.
• Experience managing and developing a team.
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines.
• Competent IT user including accounting software and Excel.
Knowledge and experience
• Experience in finance operations or similar role.
• Competent with purchase ledger and credit control processes.
• Experience using Sage accounting systems.
• Basic accounting and VAT knowledge.
Qualifications
• GCSE (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
• Professional accounting qualification such as AAT desirable.
