Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join our finance team at a pivotal time. As a Finance Manager, you will play a crucial role in leading and supporting a team of five, working closely with the Head of Financial Reporting. You will be responsible for coordinating and delivering key financial processes, including monthly accounting returns, key balance sheet reconciliations and maintaining robust financial controls.

In this role, you will collaborate with key stakeholders both within and outside the Trust to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. You will also take the lead in the preparation and analysis of the statutory accounts, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and be a key contact in the external audit process.

Your responsibilities will include overseeing the reconciliation, production and prompt clearing of balance sheet accounts and aligning financial reporting processes with the Trust's reporting timetable. You will drive the monthly reporting process, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of financial data within the agreed timescales.

Main duties of the job

  • To deliver high quality financial reporting services which achieve targets for timeliness accuracy and financial control
  • Ensure the integrity and accuracy of financial reporting systems within the Trust. Develop and implement robust financial policies and procedures to enhance reporting practices. Collaborate closely with internal and external auditors and counter-fraud teams
  • To lead the month end process for financial accounts and reporting to external agencies, and to assist in the production of the Trust Annual Accounts and the external audit process

Person specification

Education/ Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Knowledge of financial and accounting procedures, financial reporting standards, and financial & other aspects of relevant legislation, gained through Professional Accountancy Qualifications (CCAB or equivalent) and have 3 years financial accounting experience
  • Knowledge of complex accounting areas including VAT, Inventory, Cash
  • Knowledge of Accounting Standards

Desirable criteria

  • Further relevant specialist training in technical skills and NHS financial management

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Have experience in the preparation of the statutory annual accounts process
  • Providing quality accounting services and financial advice to senior financial staff
  • Managing reporting processes, planning, monitoring, reporting using asset management systems
  • Managing month and year end financial processes in a timely and accurate way
  • Conveys financial concepts clearly and persuasively to non-financial managers.

Desirable criteria

  • Significant experience of working within the NHS or another complex public sector organisation

Skills/Knowledge/ Abilities

Essential criteria

  • Knowledge of current accounting issues and a detailed understanding of the regulatory framework
  • Evidence of planning and delivering deadlines and service on time for self and teams.
  • Able to reflect on own performance and recognise areas of development
  • User of relevant financial systems and advanced skills in Excel

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of Power BI, SQL, VBA or other relevant reporting tools
