Our Infrastructure - Environment Division

The Environment Division sits within our Infrastructure sector and provides a wide range of construction and related services to the UK Water industry. The Division consists of four main Business Units and approximately 15 operating units, generating annual turnover of circa £450m.

This is a key senior role within the central Environment finance function, supporting the full Division and working closely with operational and commercial leadership teams.
Purpose of the Role

As Finance Manager, you will act as the finance lead for one of the Division's main Business Units, providing robust financial oversight, commercial insight and strategic support.

Reporting to the Environment Finance Director, you will work alongside other Finance Managers and play a pivotal role in strengthening financial control, supporting performance improvement and developing the wider finance team.
Key Accountabilities

  • Act as finance business partner to a main Business Unit, supporting senior operational leadership.
  • Lead financial performance reviews including trading results, cash, WIP, order book and balance sheet analysis.
  • Attend and contribute to Business Unit and portfolio review meetings.
  • Oversee cash management, payment approvals and monthly payroll reviews.
  • Manage and develop finance team members, including succession planning.
  • Maintain delegated authority matrices and ensure financial governance compliance.
  • Provide credit reviews and commercial advice regarding customers, suppliers and JV partners.
  • Play a key role in statutory, internal and client audits.
  • Monitor and manage Prompt Payment Code compliance.
  • Support the Finance Director on strategic and ad-hoc financial matters.

About You

  • Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) preferred, or significant relevant industry experience.
  • Strong finance business partnering experience within construction or a related sector.
  • Proven experience managing or developing finance staff.
  • Strong commercial awareness with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
  • Experience operating within a structured, multi-entity environment.
  • Strong Excel capability and experience using Oracle or similar ERP systems.
  • Knowledge of upcoming UK SOX (UKSOX) requirements advantageous.

About the Team

Our Environment Business provides 'source to sea' asset delivery capability across the UK and Scotland working on both Frameworks and Standalone projects. Since AMP3 we have delivered in excess of £2bn assets for clients such as Yorkshire Water, United Utilities, Anglian Water, Thames Water, Southern Water, Welsh Water and Scottish Water. As an established player in the market this a great opportunity to join the team at a time of transformation as we shape ourselves to be fit for delivery in a future digital world.
