We have an exciting opportunity for a talented Finance Manager, based at our Head Office in Atherstone on Stour, Straford upon Avon.

This role is for 35 hours a week (9-4), although there will be a need for flexibility to work 40 hours if the business need arises.

You will report into the Chief Executive Officer and will line manage the Assistant Management Accountant and Purchase Ledger Clerk.

The salary for this role is £32k - £35k pro rata dependent on your experience, knowledge and qualifications.

JOB PURPOSE

It is the responsibility of the Finance Manager to oversee the effective management of the Charity's finances and financial processes. The Finance Manager will support the Board of Trustees, CEO, Senior Leadership Team and all budget holders by ensuring they have accurate and up-to-date financial information so the charity can meet its objects, vision and strategic goals and resources can be used to improve the lives of our customers.

The Finance Manager will ensure the timely and accurate completion of monthly finance reports and annual accounts, set and monitor finance related KPIs and oversee the continuous improvement process in our finance team.

The Finance Manager will 'line-manage' the Assistant Management Accountant and Purchase Ledger Clerk.

Working with the CEO, the post-holder will ensure the charity functions effectively, has long term financial viability and sustainability. The post-holder, in conjunction with the Treasurer, will ensure the Board meets its fiscal responsibilities and all regulatory requirements are complied with.

KEY RESULT AREAS/PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for ensuring the timely completion of all routine bookkeeping tasks - this will involve hands on preparation of invoices, bank reconciliations, cash collection initiatives and data uploads as well as journals and nominal ledger maintenance.

Lead the development of reports, analysis and evaluation for presentation at the Board and its sub-Committees as required to provide assurance that strategic plans are on track and to demonstrate mitigation is in place for any identified risks.

Ensure robust budget planning and monitoring of income and expenditure and the appropriate devolution of specific budgets and monitoring reports to relevant managers.

Formulate strong and tailored management information and value-added analysis to support effective decisions by the Senior Leadership Team and the Board

Lead the delivery of consistent, robust, timely and relevant financial information across Heart of England Mencap to support better management of resources and more effective business decision making.

Deliver the annual audit and be the auditor's main point of contact

Lead and manage the team members ensuring they have the capability, resources and professional development to deliver operational objectives.

Lead and manage the Finance Risk Register and overseeing reports for the Board and its committees to provide assurance that risks are categorised, well understood and mitigated.

Contribute to the Senior Leadership Team with shared corporate, operational decision-making responsibility to ensure Heart of England Mencap is well led by its senior team on a day-to-day basis.

Provide specialist professional and technical advice to ensure compliance with all relevant UK financial and governance regulations. Complete related requirements necessary to comply with HoEM's regulators, recognised good practice, and continuous improvement.

Drive the understanding of and compliance with all aspects of managing public money and donations, to support and uphold the responsibilities and expectations of the Charity Commission Governance Code, Companies House and any other legal or statutory requirements.

Oversee the in-year monitoring and year end processes to ensure no Heart of England Mencap Financial Regulations are breached and to assure the delivery of timely and unqualified accounts to the trustees.

Initiate new models of service provision and identify opportunities for growth, including the development of robust business and finance models that continue to enhance the services provided and support ongoing sustainability.

Any other duties which are considered commensurate with the post.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • Qualifications Recognised accounting qualification - CIMA/ ACCA/ACA/ AAT Level 4
  • Knowledge Accounting practices and procedures
  • Accountancy systems and using Microsoft Excel for financial reporting
  • Demonstrable experience of using report writers to extract meaningful information from operational management systems
  • Experience Proven track record in staff management
  • Dealing with charity finances
  • Preparation of statutory accounts
  • Using monthly finance reports to support operational and strategic decisions
  • Producing annual budgets and presenting them to the Board
  • Good communication skills - written and verbal
  • Ability to create an informed budget and forward plan
  • Ability to drive continuous improvement and solve problems in a team environment
  • Strong numerical and data analysis skills
  • Working knowledge of Sage
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Presenting financial information to those with a nonfinancial background
