Are you an aspirant Finance Business Partner? Are you looking for a role that will enable you to stretch your financial, collaborative and communication skills to improve the delivery and sustainability of health care services within Southend Hospital and the wider Mid and South Essex system, while having appropriate support and development? As Finance Manager your role is to manage the provision of finance and business support to local services within Southend hospital, including Accident and Emergency Care, inpatient, Ophthalmology and Cancer Services as part of a wider a multi-sited Foundation Trust. This new role has been developed to enable you to develop into the role and take a step towards developing into a full Finance Business Partner in the future. The role will enable you to expand your management, and service support skills, while providing clear strategic financial leadership, delivering robust operational and financial management and improving cost effectiveness within the local services you will be supporting.

Main duties of the job

The role involves investigating and analysing complex technical issues to offer advice and support to senior management, ensuring compliance with statutory regulations. Strong persuasion and negotiation skills are vital for presenting contentious information to large groups. Managing teams and fostering staff development while liaising with external senior staff is required.

Tasks include preparing annual revenue budgets, ensuring alignment with financial budgets, and obtaining approval from relevant managers and directors. Persuasion and negotiation skills are crucial for addressing managers' financial expectations. Providing financial support and regular reports to groups and meetings, while facilitating effective communication channels, is essential.

Additionally, we aim to collaborate on developing and implementing a robust personal development plan to foster growth through training, coaching, and support, facilitating progression toward becoming a future finance business partner.

Personal and People Development

Essential criteria

  • Staff management experience and ability to manage and motivate a team of staff
  • Actively pursues personal development and contributes to the development of others
  • Ability to work without supervision and set own agenda. Highly motivated and enthusiastic

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Part way through CCAB qualification with aim of completion. Equivalent experience will be taken into account.
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent experience

Desirable criteria

  • Full CCAB qualification. Equivalent experience will be taken into account

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria

  • 4 years relevant accountancy experience
  • Financial management accountancy experience
  • Highly developed IT skills across the Microsoft Office suite
  • Understanding and ongoing development of complex spreadsheet and modelling tools
  • Costing services and business case planning

Desirable criteria

  • NHS finance in an acute hospital experience is highly desirable
  • Use of e-financials financial ledger
  • Managing, development and recruiting staff

Communication Skills

Essential criteria

  • Ability to liaise with and communicate with staff at all levels, and from a variety of disciplines within the Trust and from outside, in both oral and written forms
  • Routinely provide advice to both finance and non-finance professionals on complex and technical finance and accounting issues
  • Presentation skills for delivery of training and education on NHS financial management and budget management
  • Presentation and interpretation of complex data, to Board level and non-financial senior managers

Physical Requirements

Essential criteria

  • The jobholder will be expected to spend long periods of time sitting at a desk inputting at a keyboard on a regular basis, reading data on screens, or attending meetings.
