As our Finance Director you will lead the BAU Controllership and FP&A function for Saga's Insurance business. Our partnership with Ageas sets up Saga Insurance for growth, and successful execution is a key priority.
Your role will primarily support BAU in our Broking business and responsibilities will include financial planning, cash flow forecasting, regulatory reporting, and Board/Audit Committee activity in order to free-up SME resources for project activity. This role supports high governance standards and the improvement of financial controls and processes in a highly regulated environment.
Reporting to the our Insurance CFO, you'll support BAU activity within Insurance Finance as we work towards a seamless transition in our new Ageas partnership.
We offer flexibility over where you work - you choose a place where you feel most comfortable and productive, either from home or in one of our hubs in London or Kent. We come together with a purpose to collaborate, once a week at our offices in either Ashford or London.
Role Responsibility
As our Finance Director you'll lead two teams of around 20 colleagues in FP&A, Controllership and Finance Operations.
Other accountabilities include:
- Work thoughtfully and collaboratively with Group and Insurance Finance colleagues at a time of significant change.
- Support new General Ledger implementation (Workday)
- Ensure smooth Year End process, with the appropriate engagement of Auditors and Group functions with robust reconciliations, controls and analytics in place
- Liquidity management - Review the current Cashflow model and Liquidity models with a view to align and improve
- Clearly communicate complex accounting issues for the Audit and Risk Committees, to provide assurance and leadership on finance matters.
- Month-end Balance sheet reviews, improving the quality of the analytics and output in order to provide assurance on the numbers. management of the balance sheet, reconciliations and associated controls. Ensuring potential risks are investigated and understood. Understanding of the reconciliation between the IFRS and Solvency II balance sheet
- Review regulatory reporting for Broker: RMAR and other regular submissions
- Provide input in a disposal transaction, supporting oversight / review of reconciliations to completion accounts
- Work with Group FP&A and Controllership to ensure timely submissions and communication that supports Plc. Reporting timetable
- Own the content of the various reporting packs and provide effective, timely and succinct management information
- Ensure a timely and accurate accounts process, and produce required statutory, regulatory, board and management reports on time and to the required standards
- Proactively ensure that effective systems and controls are implemented, operating effectively and periodically reviewed
- Follow our Governance and Business Code of Conduct and always act with integrity and due diligence
The Ideal Candidate
To be our Finance Director, you will need to have significant experience in a senior finance role and a strong background in either Controllership or FP&A. The Successful candidate will be able to demonstrate running multiple Financial Year-End or Planning/Budgeting cycles, collaborating with and organising a range of stakeholders to meet strict timetables, and excellent communication and relationship management skills.
Skills and experience required include:
- Professional qualification in accountancy such as ACA/ACCA/CIMA, with robust post-qualification experience
- Excellent communication skills, able to clearly communicate complex issues
- Can clearly demonstrate leading at least 3 cycles of either Year End or Budget
- Ability to lead and manage a high performing team, with clear alignment to Saga's values
- Comfortable leading through change
- UK GAAP experience, IFRS is a plus
- IFRS 17 experience is a plus
- Experience of IBM TM1 or Planning Analytics (desirable)
