Role: Finance & Commercial Manager

Salary: Starting at £55,000

Location: Southampton (hybrid - min 3 days in the office)

We are currently recruiting for an Finance & Commercial Manager to join our dynamic team in Southampton.

The ideal candidate, will need to be ACA or ACCA Qualified with strong technical accounting knowledge in NetSuite, and experience in overseeing financial and commercial activities ensuring profitability, financial compliance, and efficient operations.

Finance & Commercial Manager, the role

Day-to-Day Finance Management:

  • Manage the operational finance team, overseeing month-end and year-end processes.
  • Oversee billing for the group, ensuring accuracy and timely invoicing.
  • Oversee bookkeeping, posting of transactions, and bank reconciliations to ensure financial accuracy.
  • Support the production of monthly management accounts, key KPIs, and reporting for directors.
  • Prepare monthly board packs and complete full balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Oversee VAT returns and customer invoicing processes.

Financial Reporting & Controls:

  • Manage all audit deliverables through to sign-off.
  • Ensure financial systems are fit for purpose and integrate acquisitions as necessary.
  • Assist in developing and documenting business processes and accounting policies to strengthen internal controls.
  • Monitor CAPEX against budget and assist with annual budgeting.

Commercial

  • Oversee the negotiation, preparation, and management of commercial contracts with clients.
  • Analyse financial and operational performance to identify opportunities for revenue enhancement and cost reduction.
  • Oversee the accurate and timely generation of customer invoices in accordance with contract terms and billing cycles.
  • Monitor and review client credit accounts, ensuring they remain within agreed limits and conditions.
  • Monitor accounts receivable aging reports, identifying overdue accounts and prioritising collections efforts.
  • Manage and forecast cash flow based on receivables and payables, ensuring adequate liquidity for business operations.
  • Work closely with the finance team to align cash collections with payment schedules and minimise cash flow gaps.
  • Implement and manage invoicing, credit control, and cash collection systems to streamline and automate processes.
  • Present reports to senior management on commercial performance, providing insights and recommendations to improve cash management and collections efficiency.

Compliance & Continuous Improvement:

  • Stay up to date with accounting standards to ensure compliance.
  • Oversee financial systems and ensure alignment with the company's growth and operational needs.

Leadership & Team Development:

  • Provide leadership, coaching, and motivation to the finance team, including performance appraisals and setting objectives.
  • Deputise the Head of Due Diligence and Business Compliance when required.

Finance & Commercial Manager, about you

  • Demonstrable experience of dealing with large volumes of data.
  • Experience managing audits and producing statutory financial statements.
  • Strong team development / leader / motivator.
  • Strong communication, negotiation and influencing abilities.
  • Advanced Excel skills and accounts system administration.
  • Excellent organisation and planning skills with the ability to work to strict deadlines whilst maintaining quality and accuracy.
  • Must have a hands-on approach.
  • Provide evidence of managing risk and implementation of process improvements.
  • System implementation experience would be highly advantageous.
