Finance and Operations 'FinOps' Manager - Contractor

This job is brought to you by Jobs/Redefined, the UK's leading over-50s age inclusive jobs board.

RORA Contractors

Contracting is great - you get to be the boss.

But it can leave you out on your own with no real support and no one to learn from.

And it's tough to always be worrying about where your next client is coming from.

So, we've re-designed how we work with contractors. You get the freedom and control you're looking for, with the training and support of being in a wider team.

FinOps Manager

Our FinOps Managers work with some of the most exciting startups in the UK, and beyond.

We're looking for contractors who want flexible, ad hoc work that will make up the majority (over 50%) of the work you do. You'll be paired with roles that suit your skills best.

As a FinOps Manager, you'll work directly within our partners' teams managing the delivery of finance and operational tasks. You'll be working with them - and managing the rest of the FinOps team (usually one of our FinOps Associates) - to build world-class finance and ops processes,

What you'll be doing

We promise work that excites and challenges you with some of the most exciting, and fast growing businesses in the UK. You'll get hands-on experience working across multiple start-ups and scale-ups, from day one.

With startups, no two days are the same but you can expect to take on the following sorts of things:

  • In their office, or on Zoom, working directly with founders and CFOs as a part of their team
  • Overseeing and managing all Finance and Ops processes across multiple partners at the same time
  • Designing and building financial processes, iteratively looking for improvements
  • Optimising processes and systems, integrating new cutting-edge tools
  • Coaching and developing the FinOps Associate team

It's a hybrid UK-based role - for those able to come into London roughly weekly.

You can flex how you work to suit you: wfh, at your partners' offices or in our office near London Bridge but we ask you're available to be in London from time-to-time.

You can pick what days you'd like to work with us. However, the team gets together every Wednesday morning, and you'd be expected to be available for the same
About you

You'll be looking for contract work from us that will take up >50% of your week. We want to invest in you - and we want you to invest in us too!

You'll naturally be someone who challenges the status quo. Someone who craves a job they really love and can challenge themselves to develop and grow.

For this role, you'll need to have:

  • 3 or more years experience in finance & accounting (in an accounting firm or small business)
  • Excellent communication in both written and spoken English
  • Proven ability to manage multiple complex projects and competing priorities
  • Confidence in managing senior people in the team (CEO and CFO level)

You'll be someone who:

  • Excels at organisation and project management to prioritise work
  • Doesn't shy away from hard conversations with stakeholders
  • Can work independently and motivate themselves
  • Is able to assess and improve processes, implementing new tools where needed
  • Is excited about changing accounting and finance for the better

What you'll get from us

We believe reward should be tied to how well we all do.

You'll get:

  • work once a week on Wednesday in our L&D pods for training and FinOps development
  • access to the same benefits as our employees
  • £330 /day

Who we are

At RORA, we believe in doing work we care about with people we love.

To do this, we build new types of teams, perfectly designed for a new world of work. Our fractional teams are built specifically for startups - some of the most exciting and innovative businesses in the world.

This allows us to provide our team with amazing opportunities to make a real difference doing fun, challenging work. We take the safety of being an employee, with the variety you'd get as a contractor, alongside the support and development opportunities of a big firm.

We like to think it's the best of everything.

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

What we believe:

We believe we're a product of the varied experiences, skills and stories of everyone in the team. The broader those experiences & skills, the more numerous the beginnings, and the more diverse the view point; the more we can challenge each other and challenge everything - our core principle.

What this means to us:

We actively encourage candidates from all backgrounds to apply and help make RORA more diverse (and add much needed diversity to accounting as a profession).

We are committed to providing equal opportunities to all candidates regardless of age, disability, caring needs, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, caste, religion, belief, pregnancy or maternity, marriage or civil partnership.

What you can expect from us:

We are striving to create a new type of team. We believe we can create a new standard in finance, and in this journey, we are committed to eliminating all forms of direct and indirect discrimination.

We promise fairness and openness in our recruitment process, and to foster a diverse and healthy workplace for all.

Sounds good?

We're always open looking for great new contractors who are looking for exciting, fractional roles. We can't always guarantee that we'll have a role with one of our partners immediately but we aim to do fill up the time you have available within the first 2 months.

Once vetted, we will keep you up-to-date with the roles as they come available and ask that you're available to meet new prospective partners with us. This means we can ensure it's a great fit for you and them.

If that works for you, we'd love to get you get going with the application process - there's a case study exercise to ensure you'd be a good fit. We will update you with the roles we do have as you get through the process.

By the way, it's ok if you don't hit every single one of these requirements, if you have a passion for changing accounting and finance for the better, we'd love to speak with you.

If that works for you - hit 'Apply Now' above and complete the short form below.

Good luck! We'll be in touch soon.
