We are looking for a Field Technician to undertake the maintenance of a wide range of water quality monitoring equipment. In addition, you will manage and operate a quality assurance system and supervise staff as appropriate.
The high-resolution evidence produced is vital if we are to better understand our water environment.

The team
The National Water Quality Instrumentation Service provides support to all instrument-based water quality monitoring activities undertaken across the Agency.
We deliver a vital service that underpins the Environment Agency's regulatory responsibilities, and we are playing a central role in the development and expansion of real time water quality monitoring in relation our responsibilities under the 2021 Environment Act. The team also supports a wide range of citizen science and stakeholder partnerships.
Experience/skills required
We are seeking an enthusiastic individual preferably with field and/or instrumentation experience. You should have a scientific/technical background, formally qualified or with relevant vocational experience. In addition, you should possess proven ability and/or knowledge of:
- Water quality monitoring systems and environmental science.
- Technical support.
- Field work experience
- Instrument based measurement systems.
- Provision support in the design and construction of water quality instrumentation networks.
- Excellent communication skills and an enthusiastic individual.
- Proficiency in word, excel and database management along with a passion for innovation and problem solving.
Fieldwork tasks will involve working near or in water, carrying equipment and operating instrumentation in accordance with our H&S procedures. This is a field-based post.
A full UK Licence is essential for this role.

The role will be based at our Caversham Lakes Depot. This is a National, role which will require frequent planned and unplanned travel to various locations across the country. Overnight stays will be necessary. Expenses will be covered.
