ABOUT THE ROLE
The Department of Sport, Exercise, and Rehabilitation is seeking an enthusiastic, highly skilled, and self-motivated Senior Technician to join our dedicated technical team. In this role, you will share responsibility for the safe, effective, and efficient operation of our well-equipped, multi-functional laboratories, which support educational programs and academic research.

The role will involve delivering practical sessions within the undergraduate teaching programme, focusing on exercise physiology and sports nutrition. This includes demonstrating equipment and scientific procedures to students, necessitating proficiency in calibrating, maintaining, and operating specialised sports and exercise physiology equipment. Additionally, you will ensure the smooth running of anatomy sessions for St. George's University-Northumbria University's medical education programme.

A key responsibility of this position will be to provide expert technical support within the Department's Wet Lab, overseeing day-to-day operations and ensuring compliance with health and safety protocols. This will involve actively engaging in research activities, delivering comprehensive inductions and one-on-one training for staff and students on scientific procedures and the use of specialised equipment. Additionally, you will serve as the Person Designated under Northumbria University's Human Tissue Research License, managing the faculty's Human Tissue Bank and ensuring adherence to Human Tissue Authority (HTA) regulations.

ABOUT THE TEAM

The successful candidate will work across multiple key facilities, including Sport Central, Northumberland Building, and Drill Hall, supporting a diverse range of activities. You will be part of a collaborative team of five technicians, providing essential support to academic staff, researchers, and students.

ABOUT YOU

You should be a highly motivated and proactive individual, qualified to degree level or with equivalent professional experience in a practice-based subject relevant to the role. You will have experience working in specialist physiology laboratories or facilities and will be proficient in using specialist equipment such as douglas bags, metabolic carts, timing gates, and benchtop analysers. Additionally, you will have a solid understanding of laboratory health and safety, familiarity with working with biological samples, and experience delivering training and demonstrations.
