Facilities Operations Manager (Burnley)

The University of Central Lancashire is currently seeking to recruit a Facilities Operations Manager to join our growing Estates and Campus Services team based at our Burnley Campus.

Reporting to the Head of Facilities Management who is based at Preston; this is a new role providing the primary point of contact and coordination for all Estates and Facilities Management services at our Burnley Campus, which include security, cleaning, catering, maintenance, caretaking and on-site Health and Safety.

Our Burnley Campus is based just outside the town centre and consist of 4 buildings:

  • Newtown Mill - 4,500m2 (opening 2025)
  • Victoria Mill - 6,523m2
  • Sandygate Mill - 1,446m2
  • Sandygate Hall - 5,300m2

The buildings provide teaching, office, social, commercial, and residential accommodation to University staff and students.

The post holder will be responsible for developing and maintaining a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and sustainable environment for all who study, work, or live at Burnley Campus, including students, staff, visitors and partners - contributing to the attraction, recruitment and retention of students and staff. M ost of the technical service delivery at the Burnley Campus will be via our appointed FM Contractor; but the post holder must have a full understanding of hard and soft services delivery and the associated compliance systems.

You will receive technical and management support from the central team at the main Preston Campus, however it is important to note that this role will be expected to take operational decisions at the Burnley Campus on a day-to-day basis; including coordinating the initial estates and facilities management response to incidents and emergencies during evenings and weekends.

The successful candidate will have an NVQ Level 4 in Facilities Management and hold a NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety (or be working towards it) You will also have significant experience in a senior facilities management role and a sound knowledge and understanding of statutory legislation and current best practice relating to estates and facilities management. Your technical competence, qualifications and experience are vitally important to this role; however it will be your leadership style and ability to motivate and engage your team that will make you stand out above other candidates.

You will be confident in interacting with a wide range of stakeholders, as you will be responsible for maintaining effective working relations with a wide range of stakeholders.
